I CAN MAKE A GAME OUT OF ALMOST ANYTHING

If you know me at all, you know I love games. Board games, puzzles, computer games, tennis, etc. Games, to me, are fun. Those I play with others and those that I do alone. I love the challenge. I love to win. I love to figure out moves and the best way to be a winner. I like making things balance. Heck, I even enjoy balancing our checkbooks. To the penny.

Remember when I mentioned in my last post that I'm having FUN even during my new diet and fitness plan. Seriously. I'm having FUN. My friend Becky told me about myfitnesspal.com (thanks big time Becky!) and it's really a big part of making things fun. I'm not kidding.

Here's just a few reasons I like it...a lot:
It's free. It's easy. It records what I eat and caculates the calories, fat, carbs etc. for me. It records my exercise info and computes calories burned which are then added back to my day's allowance. The food database is good and even lists most restaurants, but if a food isn't listed, you can add the info. You can easily change portion sizes. Also if you eat a lot of the same things everyday, it's easy to record previously eaten foods. I can post from my iPhone or my iPad when we're away from home.

Did I mention it's free? And fun! And it's helping me make good choices. Sometimes I go ahead and enter in something I am thinking about having and then when I see the calories, fat, etc. I change my mind and delete it and choose something else. And I haven't been hungry all week. Pinkie swear! I've even had extra calories, etc. left over almost every night.

Dang, I think I just did a free advertisement for them! Oh well...I like it and think you will too.

It's been one week since I started and I can already feel a difference in how I feel and how my clothes fit. I'm not getting on a scale. Doing that can make you c-r-a-z-y if you don't see results fast enough. FEELING the difference is enough for me.

My goal is to carry on and have more fun with it. I found this "Goal Clarity Strengthening Process" idea somewhere on line and thought it was good. It's geared toward business, but it can work for us wanting to lose weight and get back in shape too.
  1. In the left column write at least 5 things you want to happen in the next 60 days.
  2. Write a specific time/date when you will take that action in the 3rd column. Is it each day? Week? How often? A date is another checkpoint on the road to success.
  3. Next, identify your reward for completing those actions or the goal. Think through the BENEFIT of completing the action that leads you to the goal or outcome. Will you sleep better? Will there be self-satisfaction? Will it be a treat like a special coffee or candy? Be prepared to “reward” yourself when you have completed the action/outcome. Write these in the 4th column. (rather than candy...how about a new pair of skinny jeans?!)
  4. And in the 5th column write the name of a stakeholder for this goal or outcome. A stakeholder is someone who will care about this outcome – it might be a manager, a spouse, a colleague, a friend. You may have different stakeholders for each goal.
Will YOU be my stakeholder?

"Arriving at one goal is the starting point to another.
"

So...on to week two!

Hugs,
Kat

Those are great tips! Thank you for sharing them. I haven't been good about logging my food today as I'm a bit under the weather. I have made good choices though so when I go log the food (which will be right after I post this! Thank you for the encouragement!) I won't be ashamed. Keep up the good work, girl! You're doing great!

I'm gonna go right on over and check out that site right now! Now, I like games, too. I like playing word games and Solitaire. And, I like my Game Boy gmes, too.
But, that checkbook balancing game you talked about? I do NOT do good at that one. I NEVER win. Actually, I just got mad and decided not to play it any more...why willingly take on all that stress? :)

You're such an inspiration, Kat!! Good for you; I love that you don't give up and can't wait to see u in that bikini this summer. lol

I love games also although we don't play them as often. But, I like playing spider solitaire on the computer, and Hunter likes it too. :)

Yes, I will be glad to be one of your stakeholders. I am so proud of your hard work, Kat! I want to check out that website. It sounds great! I don't see any need to pay a personal trainer when a website like this one is available. Keep up the good work. Love & blessings from NC!

I like that app too. It's nice when healthy habits become fun... I was at the gym the other day and realized I really enjoy being there. I joined last year after the first, deciding I had to get strong :). Hugs friend!
