What is here, you ask? The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk is this weekend on Saturday morning. The walk is near and dear to my heart. I don't know about all American Cancer Society offices, but I can tell you without a doubt our local office is filled with a joyful spirit and all the employees are caring, loving and special people. I'm proud to do what I can to spread the word and remind others of the importance of getting their mammograms and doing their self breast exams. Plus this time of the year is my chance to raise funds. And raised funds I have! Thanks to many of YOU!
As of now, my team has raised 96% of my goal which was $4,000.00. We are at $3,830.00. Yippee!
I'll be away for a few days spending time with my family...so many are here now and more are coming tomorrow. We have lots of things planned and the excitement is mounting.
"See" you back here in a few days.
"Father, help me to be a blessing to someone today."
I'm a busy bee trying hard to take care of things on my "to do" list before the breast cancer walk this Saturday. I have Lunch Bunch today, tennis in the morning and a tennis luncheon in the afternoon...and lots of family coming into town starting tomorrow. My Mom, aunt, "Other Mother", both daughters, and all my siblings and their spouses are coming. We have a full schedule of family activities this weekend as well as the walk and I'm so excited to have everyone here.
Buzzzzzzz........
"Father, help me to be a blessing to someone today."
The walk is next Saturday...just one week to go. So excited, especially since so much of my family is coming to walk with us.
You've probably seen THE PINK GLOVE dance video before, but it always always alwaysmakes me smile. (The guy with the mop in the beginning, the middle and at the end is my favorite!)
Love the music!
Enjoy!
We're having a quiet relaxing weekend. How about you?
"Father, help me to be a blessing to someone today."
We hopped on the golf cart and took Miss Daisy over to watch the sunset on the bay tonight. Oh.My.Word!
God's beautiful masterpiece! And speaking of beautiful... We spotted these beauties in our neighbors yard. We stopped the golf cart and just watched them for awhile. Miss Daisy never barks at them for some reason. They are cautious, but they let you get pretty darn close. Click the photo to see just how beautiful and healthy they are. George sees them on the golf course all the time. The guys are afraid sometimes that they are going to hit them with a ball. I hope not. Miss Daisy is ready for Halloween! I took this at lunch when we went to the marina. It's hard to get a good photo of her...she's camera shy. LOL
Happy weekend everyone!

I'm not sure if I've mentioned this before or not, but my new fav snack EVER is hot popcorn with dark chocolate. Oh.My.Word! I actually dreamed this up one night a few weeks ago and just had to try it. It's actually "kinda" healthy. I only use Orville Redenbacher's Natural Simply Salted 50% Less Fat microwave kind. No butter for me please! But....as soon as it has finished popping, I put some popcorn in a bowl, throw in a few (???) dark chocolate chips and then add more hot popcorn, then a few more chips and then top with hot pop corn. By the time I eat the plain ones on top, the ones underneath are touched by ooey gooey melted chocolate. sigh! Seriously, give it a try. A little salty and a little sweet. H.E.A.V.E.N in a bowl, I tell ya.
When my sister was here recently, I made her some and I added a spoon to the bowl since I told her it can get messy. Well...she never used her spoon. She said (and I quote) "the best part is licking your fingers as you go!". And she's right. The only "problem" (not for me) is that you can't do anything else (like read a book or be at the computer). You have to just sit and eat and enjoy until you're finished and can wash your hands. LOL
Something else that is so sweet to me.......Have you noticed how my little thermometer is slowly rising? As of today, my total raised for TEAM DAVENPORT for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk is $2,945.00. Yippee! I'm doing a little happy dance every single time I get a donation. The walk...and the fight against breast cancer...is dear to my heart. I'm hoping in my lifetime that we will win the fight so a walk won't be necessary anymore. Can I get an amen?!! And now for the scary part. At least to me. shivers! I went yesterday morning to pick up a large pot of mums to go by the door with my silly scarecrows and pumpkin. I went in my convertible so it rode home with me on the passenger front seat. Not a problem. I even talked to it and told it how "purdy" it was and how happy it made me feel.
So what's so scary? Well, as soon as I carried it...right up against my chest...to the porch and sat it down to water it, I stood back to admire it and out scampered the BIGGEST @$%&$ lizard I have ever seen. Oh.My.Goodness! Can you imagine if that thing had scampered out and onto ME while I was driving??? Good Golly Miss Molly, you probably would have heard the scream and then read about it in the papers or seen it on the news!
Needless to say, no more plants in the car. It will be the trunk or not at all from now on. Questionable? I have discovered the POT at the end of the rainbow....right in one of our guest bathrooms. Te-he-he! And for fun...Look at this t-shirt I saw the other day. Dang, I should have bought it!

Keep praying please for my sweet friendsTeresa and Paige and their families.

I'm literally walking around in awe of the love that is surrounding me. It's an incredibly warm and fuzzy feeling.
At the Survivors Breakfast on Saturday morning I sat next to two sweet very recent survivors. We were asked at the door to put our new "birthday" (the day we became a survivor) on our name tags below our name. I was proud to put "Hi I'm Kat Davenport and I'm 4-1/2 years old". My two table-mates each wore "I'm 11 months old". The fear was very obviously in their eyes. I tried to give them assurance and love...and hope. I sooooooo remember how extremely scary it feels that first year. Through my faith and the support of friends and family, I made the decision that I.WILL.NOT.LIVE.IN.FEAR. And, for the most part, I have succeeded. There are days when it's harder than others. Like the day of and before my mammogram. But mostly I just LIVE. Never forgetting how precious every single second, minute, and hour is.
During breakfast I told them how I have found "gifts to cancer". I know...that's a very strange thing to say. Words I never ever thought I would say. Or feel. But, it's true. I won't go into ALL of them (yes, there's LOTS), but the first and biggest for me was finding out that I truly am a Christian. My faith is true. My faith is strong. Another is finding out how much I am loved. That's a POWERFUL gift, let me tell you. And not just by my friends and family, but even by people who only know me through this wonderful WORLD OF BLOG. The out pouring of love has been amazing. And humbling. And I thank you all so much. For your sweet comments...and cards...and prayers...and donations. You WOW me!
Recently I was really WOWED when two of my sweet blog friends did posts on ME and the fight against breast cancer. Thank you Nicole@Happily Every After Again for the interview andRachel @ Lawn Tea for the post about my Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. I am truly truly touched and so appreciate the LOVE! Please go visits these sweet friends and read their powerful messages.
Nichole shared this awesome video...one I had never seen before. It is amazing. I hope you'll take a moment to view it.
My walk is just 11 days away. I'm so excited. I'm wowed almost every day by people donating to my team. Most people who walk with TEAM DAVENPORT once, come back. It's an exciting morning and the air is almost electric with excitement, celebration and hope. What's really exciting though is getting the love from people who have never walked, but support me because they care...for me and for the cause. LOVE....it's an incredibly powerful GIFT!

I'm still waiting on Fall, but I must admit that October is my favorite month living on the beach. Gosh our weather has just been incredible! So wonderful for so many activities and I love being out in it. Walking, bike riding, golf cart riding, yard work, tennis...you name it and the weather is "just right". I've enjoyed washing my own car just to be outside.
My bike is a pretty blue, but I sure wish it was pink! How cute is this?! Perfect for a breast cancer survivor, don't you think? Speaking of survivors...yesterday morning was the SURVIVORS BREAKFAST. What a fun morning! I can't begin to describe the feeling of being with so many other survivors. As I listen to their stories, I sure feel incredibly blessed that mine was caught so early through my annual mammogram. Take a moment and click on the photo and look at these faces...it can happen to anyone at any age. It's so important to do your self breast exams and to get your annual mammograms.
Our Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk is just two weeks away and I'm really looking forward to having lots of my family here to walk with us.
I'm having a wonderfully lazy Sunday afternoon. I hope you are too!
"Father, help me to be a blessing to someone today."
I'm definitely a "girlie" girl. It's okay to be feminine, but feminine doesn't have to mean weakness. I've put on my gloves (pink, of course) and I'm fighting to help end cancer.
I'M FIGHTING LIKE A GIRL!!!
What does that mean? 1. determined 2. strength 3. fighter 4. advocate 5. never gives up
The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk is just two weeks away...Saturday, October 30th. This will be the 4th year that George and I have walked to raise funds for the FIGHT.
Thanks to all my blog friends who have made donations. I can't express how much it has meant to me. You amaze me!
I am now a 4-1/2 year survivor! Yeah baby! Tomorrow morning I am attending our local SURVIVORS BREAKFAST. It's hard to put into words how it feels each time I stand with a group of other survivors. CHILLS AND THRILLS, for sure. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have been full of energy today. Not sure where it came from, but sure hope it sticks around.
After tennis this morning, George and I rode our bikes over to the marina to have lunch. Gorgeous day! As you can see, we almost had the place to ourselves, but it only lasted a few minutes and before you knew it the place was hopping. When we got home, I decided to wash my car and George decided to wash the golf cart at the same time. Miss Daisy was happy to sit and watch. As long as she's with us, she doesn't care what we do or where we go. She's sporting her Halloween scarf too. When we were finished Miss Daisy was ready for her daily golf cart ride. She truly thinks the golf cart is hers and hers alone. LOL But before we could leave, our friend Carl stopped by with his fur baby Dosey. She and Daisy are best friends. Carl and his wife Jackie rescued Dosey from a shelter. We think she's part Wheaten. Carl is our friend who is battling cancer. He will need a stem cell transplant at some point, but he's doing really good right now. Praise God. Miss Daisy hopped right up and gave Dosey a kiss. So sweet! Two pretty girls!
Off to bed. Between the tennis, the bike riding, the car washing and lots of other things, I'm a tired puppy myself.
Looking forward to the SURVIVORS BREAKFAST in the morning!
