DID YOU HEAR MY ROAR?

Have you ever had one of those days where you just feel so wonderful? One of those days where everything feels good and you're full of energy and just so darn happy? No special reason...just a beautiful day staring you in the face. That's me today. It just feels so good to be alive. Thank you God!
So..........I played tennis this morning (without my brace for the first time, yeah!), then George and I rode our bikes for 7.5 miles and after lunch I took a one hour walk with my ipod, listening to some awesome music. I just wanted to be outside, so I did.
I am woman, hear me roar!
Hope your day was wonderful too.
Okay, now it's time to get busy and do some work around the house. purrrrrrr

HANDBAG TAG

Diane over at Glasses of Grace tagged me for a "Handbag Tag". You're supposed to show your purse, the contents, and evidently what you had to clean out of it to make it presentable. I change purses sometimes daily, but right now I'm using my natural straw bag (I live at the beach so we dress very casual all the time.) Since I change often, it stays pretty clean most of the time. It stays FULL all the time! I always have my cell phone too, but I had it clipped on my waist since we just took a ride on our bikes.

I'm not tagging any one in particular since most of my fellow bloggers have already been tagged. If you haven't been tagged and would like to participate, leave me a comment and let me know so I can snoop in your bag too. :-)

A BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY

It's absolutely gorgeous here today. Picture perfect.
George and I had early duty this morning for the 8:15 service, so we had to be there at 7:30, which meant leaving the house at 7:00. I love getting up early, but 5:45 is just a wee bit too early. We both helped with the offering and the communion.
Ronnie had a wonderful sermon today called "Keeping Up Appearances". He said people worry about what they wear, how they look, if their yard is good enough, job enough, family enough, etc., etc. He said we spend so much time keeping up with our perception of what is expected of us, that we miss out on the "good stuff".
He told a cute story about Little Larry an 8 year old boy who went on vacation with his family to Yellowstone National Park. His parents decided to buy a game that the family could play along the way to help entertain everyone. They bought the game where you tried to spot a license plate from every state. It worked. Everyone really got into the game, especially Little Larry. By the time they arrived in Yellowstone, they had found every state, except one. Delaware. Now Yellowstone is home to some of the most breathtaking and beautiful natural wonders, including mud volcanoes, hot springs, steam vents, rivers and breathtaking land formations like natural bridges, deep caves and Devil's Tower and, of course, the most famous geyser in America, Old Faithful. Not to mention the incredible wildlife. But...every place they stopped, Little Larry spent his time in the parking lots looking for a Delaware license plate. One day as the family was having lunch, Little Larry gobbled down his food and hurried outside. He came back in telling his family they just had to come quick to see something wonderful. Of course, it was just a Delaware license plate. They had someone take their picture next to the rear end of this car. This picture became their souvenir and memory of Yellowstone.
I guess sometimes we get so carried away with our goals and the rules we set for our lives, that we forget to look around us at the beauty and majesty our Lord has provided for us.

OKAY, NOW I'M EVEN MORE SCARED!

(This photo and the article were copied from the Walton Sun)
After I saw the very first Jaws movie, I don't like getting in the water except maybe up to my waist. Even then, I'm skiddish to say the least. Well, check out the photo and the article about what was caught nearby. Our boat was the same size...23 foot. Let me tell you, a 23 footer isn't big and thinking about having a 12 foot shark nearby gives me the willies!

Mammoth mako takes 23-foot boat for a ride
April 24, 2007
DESTIN -- They knew they were going to need a bigger boat when fishermen aboard the 23-foot Sea Ya Later II hooked a 1,063 pound mako shark. The crew was cobia fishing between Navarre and Pensacola on April 18 when they spotted a huge shark feeding on porpoise. They snatched the notoriously hard-fighting mako with a cobia jig and the fight was on. As one of the anglers on the Sea Ya Later bowed up on the front of the boat and tried to hang on to his catch. Destin’s Capt. Jason Hallmark on the Mother Lode, a 45-foot charter boat, moved into the area in search of cobia.Capt. Hallmark figured they had a good cobia on line. But then those aboard the Sea Ya Later II waved for him to come over. When Hallmark approached, what he saw was “incredible.” "It still had a porpoise in its mouth when I got there," he said. "It looked like a dog with a bone in its mouth." Hallmark said the mako was swimming on the surface, its fin in the air." I don't think it even knew it was hooked," he said. Hallmark climbed aboard the smaller boat with two flying gaffs and managed to stick the mako in the gills. The shark swam right by the boat." You can't describe the color of purple it was in the water," Hallmark said. "How clear and brilliant it was." The gaff was tied to a leg of the smaller boat's cobia tower and then Hallmark went for the gill. "I was nervous right before I gaffed him," he said. "I remember thinking, do you really want to do this?" Holding the line of the gaff in his hands, he hooked the shark and tried to grip the line loosely to keep it from breaking off. All the while, the line slipping through his hands is ripping skin off several fingers. "The thought went through my head that we might need a bigger boat ... that was mentioned several times," he said. "He was jerking the boat around and pulling it way over," Hallmark said. "Everybody was running to the other side to keep it from tipping." Then they got another gaff in the shark and finally it bled out. Between the seven people aboard the two boats, they got the shark to the boat but then faced the problem of what to do with it. It was 12-feet, 6-inches long – too much shark for the See Ya Later. A plan was hastily devised. The two crews hooked a tail rope on the mako, and then onto to a ratchet and inched it onto the Mother Lode. "It took an hour and 15 minutes to ratchet it onto the boat. It was exhausting," Hallmark said. The two crews brought the mako to the scales at HarborWalk Marina in Destin. The mammoth mako broke the scales and pulley, but not before it registered at 875 pounds. It was then taken to scales at the Destin Fishing Fleet Marina where it tilted the scales at 1,063 pounds and measured 72 inches around the girth. "That was the most exciting day of fishing I've ever had," Hallmark said. "I've caught 600-pound blue marlin and 90-pound cobia ... but this was a man-eater, a giant. And I'd do it again in a heartbeat." Jim Roberson, a local representative of the International Game and Fish Association, said the shark is ineligible for a world record due to the method in which it was caught.

NEED A CHUCKLE TOO?

(click on photo to see it in all it's glory)

I needed a chuckle this morning and this provided it! Oh my goodness...wish I could have seen this in person.

TODAY

Today I'm working in the boutique at Stein Mart and I'm starting back on a low carb diet. I'm not looking forward to either one for some reason, so my mantra today with be:

"This is the day the Lord hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it."

GOD'S HANDS

It just goes to show what we already know. We have a God and he's watching over us! He's got the whole world in His hands.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE!

Happy Birthday to the sweetest guy I know. It's his birthday, but I feel like it's mine since I get the gift of his love, every single day.

I ASKED FOR IT

I woke up this morning to the sound of rain. Well, I asked for it last night, and it's raining today. So no tennis for me.
I guess I can't proscratinate about my messy desk any longer.

GRANDCHILDREN AT THE BEACH

Logan and Delaney (children of Jenn, Angela's friend), Kaley Grace, Landon and Sydney Anne

ME: THE PROCRASTINATOR

Okay, my desk isn't quite this bad, but it's pretty darn bad. I've decided that I've got to do something about the piles of "things to do" on my desk. It's crazy how my "stuff" gets piled up. It seems I keep finding other more important things to do. You know...like blogging, like reading other blogs, like tennis, bike riding, laundry, playing with the dog, eating, etc. I mean, really, who needs to do things like balancing checkbooks, filing paperwork, etc. Those things can wait, can't they? Well, not forever, I guess, but they can wait. Until, things get bad enough. And they have.
I'm supposed to play tennis in the morning (a real match for my team instead of a fun match like today's), but it's predicted we might get rain. I'm kinda hoping we do get the rain. Maybe then, I can tackle the dreaded stack on my desk. Hey, miracles can happen. If it does rain us out, I'll stay in all day and get caught up. Yep, that's what I'll do!
Angela and the kids left this afternoon. We sure enjoyed their visit. I didn't take even one photo. Shame on me. I dropped my small digital camera a week ago and it's not working. My larger one is too large for my purse, so I didn't have it with me when I was with them. Angela has promised to send me some she took with her camera.
Daisy is still a dream come true. George is so smitten with her. She's definitely the best dog we've ever, ever had!

WORKS FOR ME WEDNESDAY - LOVE THOSE ZIP LOCK BAGGIES

Whoever invented zip lock baggies is my hero! What would we do without them?! I use them in so many ways, but one of my favorites is to use one when I make deviled eggs. Here's how:

I put the cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash until they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw the bag away when done for an easy clean up.

This works for me!

Go here for more neat ideas!

I LOVE YOU

In our family, we say "I love you" ALOT. In fact, we say it every time we talk to each other on the phone or leave each other, even if we're just running to the store. It's so wonderful to say it and to hear it. It saddens me to think there are families that never say it to each other.
This morning when I was out for my walk, my cell phone rang and before I could get off one call, another one came through, then another, then another. After each call, I heard and said "I love you". After the last call, I found myself smiling broadly and feeling so good and walking with a pep in my step. I realized in just a few minutes, I had four people tell me they love me. One was my friend, Jeanette, one was my daughter-in-law, Angela, one was my husband, George, and one call was my daughter, Bree.
Thank you Lord for the give of love.

SUNDAY

Church was wonderful today. The music was just gorgeous and the message was awesome. We sang one of my favorites today (I know... I have lots of favorites!):
Give Thanks
Give thanks with a grateful heart, give thanks to the Holy One, give thanks because he's given Jesus Christ his Son. And now let the weak say "I am strong", let the poor say "I am rich", because of what the Lord has done for us. Give thanks!
I love this song. I am so thankful. For so many things.
Our associate pastor preached today and told a funny story. He said last week after church his wife went to the grocery store and called him screaming about an emergency. He said there was no way he would ever have guessed what it was. There was a mouse in her glove compartment! She was not getting back into that car. No way! He drove there and swapped cars with her. Of course, by the time he got there the mouse was hiding somewhere else. He said he stood in the parking lot with visions of the tiny mouse eating away at the car's computer wires, etc. He went inside and purchased a glue strip and a Reese's peanut butter cup and drove home and waited. A few hours later, the problem was solved. So funny!!!!!!!

It's a gorgeous day here today. Life is good. Well for me. George is having a colonoscopy tomorrow morning, so he might not agree. No food and having to drink that yucky stuff isn't fun and tonight you know where he'll be spending his time :-) I'm going to have dinner with Angela and the kids so I won't have to eat around him. He gets grumpy when he can't eat. :-)

MY HEART BREAKS

If you're like me, you have way too many blogs to keep up with so there are some you just have to read every day and some that you visit when you have time. I definitely don't need one more blog to read, yet I find myself finding just one more. I recently heard about a prayer request for Heather, a fellow blogger, through Boo Mama's blog (one of my favorites).
Heather has recently been diagnosed with a brain tumor. She is a 32 year old mother and wife. She is a strong Christian and has incredible faith. She writes eloquently in her blog about what she is going through. My heart breaks for her, but she inspires me with her strength. Please pray for her.

COLOR ME HAPPY

Angela and the children and Angela's friend, Jenn, and her two children arrived this afternoon. They're staying at "Color Me Happy", our condo down on the harbor. Since we moved to the new house, it's about 25 minutes away, which seems strange since we used to just walk across the street from our home on the beach to the condo on the harbor (we lived on a narrow isle - beach on one side and harbor on the other).

Tonight we met them all for dinner at our favorite pizza pub down on that end of town. It was wonderful hearing Landon, Kaley Grace and Sydney squeal with delight when they saw us! We've missed them so much. Of course, after dinner, we had to go for ice cream. This is a tradition...we have ice cream every night when they are here. I can't believe I didn't take my camera!

Side note: "Color Me Happy" is something I've said for years anytime I'm happy and content. If I'm eating something good or doing something I love, etc., I say "Color Me Happy". When we bought the condo on the harbor, I decorated it with the tropical look and lots of color. We bought this for our family to use and I'm happy with they are here. So, it was named "Color Me Happy".

ME LATELY!

I think I need this t-shirt!

SAND AND STONE

I got this in an e-mail today and I found it to be a great reminder.

TWO FRIENDS WERE WALKING THROUGH THE DESERT. DURING SOME POINT OF THE JOURNEY, THEY HAD AN ARGUMENT AND ONE FRIEND SLAPPED THE OTHER ONE IN THE FACE. THE ONE WHO GOT SLAPPED WAS HURT, BUT WITHOUT SAYING ANYTHING, WROTE IN THE SAND: TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE. THEY KEPT ON WALKING,UNTIL THEY FOUND AN OASIS, WHERE THEY DECIDED TO TAKE A BATH. THE ONE WHO HAD BEEN SLAPPED GOT STUCK IN THE MIRE AND STARTED DROWNING, BUT THE FRIEND SAVED HIM. AFTER HE RECOVERED FROM THE NEAR DROWNING, HE WROTE ON A STONE: TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE.THE FRIEND WHO HAD SLAPPED AND SAVED HIS BEST FRIEND ASKED HIM, "AFTER I HURT YOU,YOU WROTE IN THE SAND AND NOW, YOU WRITE ON A STONE, WHY?" THE FRIEND REPLIED "WHEN SOMEONE HURTS US WE SHOULD WRITE IT DOWN IN SAND, WHERE WINDS OF FORGIVENESS CAN ERASE IT AWAY. BUT, WHEN SOMEONE DOES SOMETHING GOOD FOR US, WE MUST ENGRAVE IT IN STONE WHERE NO WIND CAN EVER ERASE IT."

LEARN TO WRITE YOUR HURTS IN THE SAND AND TO CARVE YOUR BLESSINGS IN STONE.

YUM YUM!

Oh My Goodness! We had the best sandwiches tonight.
When we were in Ohio picking up Daisy, we also picked up some DiRusso Italian Sausage made in Youngstown, Ohio.
Our friends, Dick and Duckie, are from there and we had heard them talk about it. Also, one of the security guards here in our neighborhood is from Ohio and when he heard we were going, he asks us to bring him some back if we could. He's a great guy and it's nice to know he'll really look out for things when we're out of town. We ended up picking up some for ourselves, for him and for other friends.
Tonight we invited Jack over since Linda is out of town. George grilled some sausages and I made a marinara sauce and also cooked some bell peppers and onions. We made open-faced sandwiches on toasted sub buns with the sausage, peppers and onions and topped them with the marinara sauce. We also had chips and pickles. So yummy!
It's so nice to be home!

INTRODUCTIONS

We stopped today and introduced Daisy to lots of our friends. She was a sweetie pie and everyone loved her.

Miss Daisy's first ride in the golf cart. She wasn't sure at first, but then she loved it.

We're leaving now for her first trip to the vet. I bet she doesn't like that. We'll see....

WE'RE HOME!

Daisy makes herself at home and we're glad.

We arrived home around 5:30 this evening. Daisy was good again today. No problems until we were crossing the toll bridge and were about 20 minutes from home. She spit up just a little in her crate. Bless her heart. We stopped and cleaned it up and she seems fine now. We walked her all through the house and introduced her to each room. She doesn't seem nervous at all and finally ate a little bit. She follows us everywhere we go. So cute. She just trots along looking up at us often as if she expects us to give her directions or commands. Tomorrow afternoon we're taking her to the vet for a checkup.

All in all the trip was very pleasant and George and I are surprised that it went so smoothly. We're tired tonight, but not as much as we thought we would be.

It probably sounds strange, but I believe God led us to this dog. She's just exactly what we were looking for.

(I promise all my post won't be about Daisy.)

A GOOD NIGHT

Daisy was a little nervous for awhile when we went to bed, but after awhile she settled down, curled up on her mat and slept....until 8AM. She barked when I stood up and then she rushed up and starting jumping on me. She was so happy, her tail was wagging, and she was giving me kisses. She did the same thing when George spoke to her. She seemed sooooo excited we were up. We're in awe of how sweet and good she is. I'm still knocking on wood. Unbelievable so far. She still isn't eating, but she is drinking water. George has just taken her outside for a potty break and then we're getting dressed and will begin our journey home.

A GOOD FIRST DAY WITH DAISY

Miss Daisy in her crate in the car.
George and Daisy when we stopped for lunch.
Me with Miss Daisy on another stop.

We picked up Daisy this morning and from the "get go" she was wonderful. Her breeder had a long talk with her telling her to be good, be loving, etc. before she helped us put her in her traveling crate. She didn't cry or bark. She layed down so she could see us in the front seats. We had NO problems with her. Amazing! We stopped a few times to let her out for a walk and to take a potty break. She didn't want water or food and never went to the potty, but walked real well and was very loving to us. She was in the car a total of 8 hours or so and never gave us any problems. What a good girl! Even when we stopped for lunch, she stayed in her crate and we parked right by the side of a Steak N Shake so we could look out the window and check on her. No problem. I wondered how she would do in the hotel room and she's no problem here either. I'm knocking on wood as I type. I can tell she's a little nervous, but she seems happy. She still won't eat which I guess is pretty normal for the first night, but she did drink some water and went to potty when George walked her tonight. Let's hope she'll sleep good. We brought in her mat from her crate in hopes she'll lay on it right beside the bed next to George. That's the plan anyway.

WORKS FOR ME WEDNESDAY

I can't take credit for this. I saw this idea somewhere and thought "what a great idea" and "this might work for me". Hope it "works for you".

When you throw a bridal/baby shower, buy a pack of thank-you cards for the guest of honor. During the party, pass out the envelopes, and have each guest put her address on the envelope she receives. When the bride/new mother sends the "Thank you" notes, they're all addressed!
I think this would be a wonderful gift for the honoree of the party.
Go here for more great ideas.

TODAY WE MET MISS DAISY

George with Miss Daisy

This morning we drove from Knoxville to Canton, Ohio. We drove through Lexington and then on to Cincinnati and Columbus. We arrived in Canton around 5PM. It wasn't a bad trip at all. Kinda fun. Beautiful country and the day was sunny and beautiful too.

When we knocked on the door, we were greeted by Candy (the breeder) and 3 excited dogs. A 10 week old male Wheaten puppy, a Tibetan Terrier and our Daisy. They were all over us for the first minute or two. They calmed down pretty quickly though. Daisy is such a sweetie pie, very cute, and so loving. George took her for a walk right away to see how she would do. I liked the breeder and spent some time asking all the questions we had written down. We also got to meet Miss Daisy's Mom. Candy also had two other Wheatens.

We're spending tonight in a hotel in Canton and will pick up Miss Daisy in the mornng at 8AM.

IGNORANCE IS BLISS

Since we were traveling all day yesterday and away from the TV, we had no idea about the Virginia Tech massacre! We turned on the TV in the hotel room, but only watched Dancing With The Stars before dashing out the door for dinner. Even in the car, we only had on XM radio and listened to music all day.
We are just sick over the news. We can't even take it in. Unimaginable! So sad.
Heading to Ohio today with sad hearts.

ON THE ROAD - DAY 1

What a beautiful day...perfect for traveling. I'm so glad I was able to play tennis before we left. It was so much fun playing and getting to be with friends. I guess it was about 10:30 before we actually got on the road. I had my "activity bag" packed with lots of books, magazines, newspapers, and projects to work on while George drove. I'm not a good rider. I'd much rather be behind the wheel. I usually get very figidity, so having lots to do helps. I read out loud from a book we bought years ago on soft coated wheatens. George and I want to learn as much as we can so we can ask lots of questions when we meet with the breeder tomorrow night. The trip actually went very well. Not bad at all. We arrived in Knoxville in time to watch our favorite show, Dancing With The Stars. Wow...what dancing...what bodies! Afterwards, we went to Outback for a great steak. We're back at the hotel now and we'll hopefully get a good night's sleep. Tomorrow we will drive to Canton, Ohio. We're looking forward to getting to see "Miss Daisy" and to meet the breeder. Fingers crossed that we will respond well to her and she to us.

CRAZY WEEKEND

We've had a crazy/busy/chaotic weekend, but fun. It's after midnight and I don't have time to even post about it, but I will later. Photos too.

We're packed and ready to leave tomorrow morning as soon as I get off the tennis court at 10AM. We're on our way to Ohio to visit "Miss Daisy" and her breeder. Hopefully, we'll like her and she'll like us. If so, we'll be bringing her home with us. 16 hours there and 16 hours back. We'll spend tomorrow night in Knoxville, Tuesday night in Canton, Ohio, Wednesday night in Chattanooga and drive home on Thursday. Lots of being in the car. Yuk!

We're excited though.

WE MIGHT BE DRIVING MISS DAISY

George has wanted a Soft Coated Wheaten since the first time he saw one when we lived in Atlanta. We actually had a deposit down on a puppy and was waiting for it to be born when we decided to move to "Paradise". Wheatens normally weight between 30-35 pounds. Our first home here was a condo and the weight limit for a dog was 25 pounds, so we gave up our deposit and didn't get one.
Now that we're living in a house, George is still wanting one and talks about it alot. A few days ago I mentioned it to one of the ladies in my Lunch Bunch. It turns out her daughter is a breeder in Ohio (I had no idea). I mentioned I loved dogs but sure hated having to go through the puppy stage again...teething, chewing, potty training, sleepless nights, etc. She called her daughter later and the daughter called George. She has a one year old puppy named Daisy that is hard for her to "show" since she's a little smaller than the judges like. She's potty trained and very sweet. We spent alot of time on the phone tonight and it looks like we'll be making a trip to Ohio this next week to pay Miss Daisy a visit. We want to meet her and spend some time getting to know her to see if she's the one for us. If so, we'll be "driving Miss Daisy" home. We're cautiously excited.
(the photo above isn't Daisy...just a photo of a Soft Coated Wheaten I found on line...the breeder said she will take a photo of Daisy and will e-mail it to me later...can't wait)

PARASKAVEDEKATRIAPHOBIA?????

Friday the 13th! Yikes you say?
The fear of Friday 13th is called paraskavedekatriaphobia or friggatriskaidekaphobia. I'm not making those up either.
One of the most commonly held superstitions in our so-called civilized, educated society is that Friday the 13th is an unlucky day, and since, in this equation, each is held to be unlucky (both 13 and Friday), added together, their sum can only equal double trouble.
I say:
"This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."
Psalms 118:24

ONE DRAWER

Before
After (but not yet finished)

I truly planned to get alot of organizing done today, but when we woke up this morning it was so beautiful. Sunny and what a gorgeous blue sky. We decided we just had to get in a bike ride, so we rode up to Starbucks in The Village for breakfast and then did our usual 6 mile ride. Awesome. A picture perfect day. We've lived here for 5 years and we still feel like we're on vacation.

I changed the sheets on the bed and started some laundry and I did manage to organize one drawer. Since we moved into the new house in November, there has been one drawer in the kitchen where the builder left all the instruction/warranty books on everything (appliances, fans, faucets, etc.). The drawer was crammed full and a true mess. Today I cleaned out that drawer and made folders for each one and put them in the desk. I didn't totally finish, but I got a good start. The sun was just too beautiful to stay inside. Everytime I looked out the window, the outside seemed to be calling my name. We ended up spending the afternoon out by the pool. Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. Organizing can wait.
I guess the first line from the cartoon I posted yesterday is true for me! ("Things I won't do now.")

FUN WITH FRIENDS

Me, Linda, Jennifer and Edith

Tonight Linda and Jack and Linda's Mom, Edith, and Bob and Jennifer came over for drinks and then we all went out for dinner. Edith is visiting from North Carolina and we haven't seen her in a couple of years. It was a fun night.

ORGANIZING

We had a really rainy yucky day and I had a bunch of errands to run. I sure wanted to stay home, but it wasn't meant to be. I'm glad I got them all accomplished and now that I'm home and nice and dry, it's nice to know they're done.

I don't have anything on my calendar tomorrow all day until our dinner plans tomorrow night with friends. Amazing! Usually, there's something or many somethings on my "to do list" which keeps me out of the house and busy, but not tomorrow. Oh, heavenly day, I can actually stay home and get some organizing done. Hopefully...............hey, it might happen.

WORKS FOR ME WEDNESDAY

Since I fill 20 Christmas stockings every year, I literally work on them all year. Yep, I said 20! (My husband, 4 children, 2 daughter-in-laws, 1 son-in-law, 9 grandchildren, my Mom and my Aunt and my youngest daughter's dog.)

Here's what works for me:

I keep the stockings in a large plastic container in the guest room closet. Each time I come home from shopping, I go ahead and put the goodies in the stockings. I also keep a document on the computer and log in what I've bought for each person. It's kinda hard to remember what I've bought sometimes, so it's nice to be able to print the list and take it with me. I save the document to help with ideas for the next year. I do a little shopping whenever I can and it really saves me lots of time as the holidays arrive and get so busy.

It's not too early to think Christmas.
Go to Shannons @ Rocks In My Dryer for more ideas!

I'M POOPED TONIGHT!

I worked today at Stein Mart and I'm so tired tonight. Standing on my feet all day is tiring since I only do it twice a month. I'm just not used to being in heels all day, even low heels. It's funny that after each time I work I think "that's it...it's not worth it". But the next day, I've forgotten about it and then I'm ready again the next time I'm due to work. (It's actually fun for most of the day. The last few hours get harder since my legs start aching.)
I had to laugh that I received this cute cartoon today.
I'm pooped...the pun is intentional.

THIS AND THAT

When I saw these photos, it reminded me of when I was a little girl, maybe 7 years old. It was popular at that time (at least in our hometown) for kids to get colored baby chicks for Easter. So cute, but boy could they make a mess! Literally. They never lived long though. Wonder why? Anyway, I can remember one year when my Mom made my sister Karen and I leave them in their box outside on the screened-in- porch. The next morning we got up and raced to play with them. The box was empty. Laying on the porch was the cat, all curled up and sleeping. We just knew he had eaten our chicks. Nope, they were curled up next to him and he was keeping them warm. True story! Amazing, but true. I guess the cat was well fed. LOL

I went to for my check-up today with my surgeon who did my breast cancer surgery. I have to see him every three months for the first two years, then every six months for the next three years. At the five year mark, I'll start going once a year. I got a clean bill of health today. Praise God!

Speaking of doctors - After 40+ years of basketball, then lots of tennis and 3 knee surgeries, George started having problems with one of his knees recently. He went to the doctor and was told it's because he now has bone rubbing on bone. The doctor will give him 3 injections (one a week) of some type of gel to cushion between the bones. It will help for awhile, but eventually he will need a knee replacement. He has had two injections so far and he said it's feeling better. He actually played tennis with me this morning to try it out. It went okay, but he's still not ready to play with the guys yet. Hope this works for him for a few more years before the surgery is needed.

My friend, Beth, is still in the hospital. She sounds terrible. I wish there was something I could do. I feel helpless. I'm praying though.

One of the Stein Mart boutique ladies lost her 31 year old son. His death was unexpected. I'm so sad for her and her family. I'll be working for her tomorrow, so I'm off to bed soon.

Night Night!

THE STORY OF THREE TREES

Once there were three trees on a hill in the woods. They were discussing their hopes and dreams when the first tree said,
"Someday I hope to be a treasure chest. I could be filled with gold, silver and precious gems. I could be decorated with intricate carving and everyone would see the beauty."
Then the second tree said, "Someday I will be a mighty ship. I will take kings and queens across the waters and sail to the corners of the world. Everyone will feel safe in me because of the strength of my hull."
Finally the third tree said, "I want to grow to be the tallest and straightest tree in the forest. People will see me on top of the Hill and look up to my branches, and think of the heavens and God and how close to them I am reaching. I will be the greatest tree of all time and people will always remember me."
After a few years of praying that their dreams would come true, a group of woodsmen came upon the trees. When one came to the first tree he said, "This looks like a strong tree, I think I should be able to sell the wood to a carpenter," and he began cutting it down. The tree was happy, because he knew that the carpenter would make him into a treasure chest.
At the second tree the woodsman said, "This looks like a strong tree. I should be able to sell it to the shipyard." The second tree was happy because he knew he was on his way to becoming a mighty ship.
When the woodsmen came upon the third tree, the tree was frightened because he knew that if they cut him down his dreams would not come true. One of the Woodsmen said, "I don't need anything special from my tree, I'll take this one," and he cut it down.
When the first tree arrived at the carpenters, he was made into a feed box for animals. He was then placed in a barn and filled with hay. This was not at all what he had prayed for.
The second tree was cut and made into a small fishing boat. His dreams of being a mighty ship and carrying kings had come to an end.
The third tree was cut into large pieces, and left alone in the dark.
The years went by, and the trees forgot about their dreams.
Then one day, a man and woman came to the barn. She gave birth and they placed the baby in the hay in the feed box that was made from the first tree. The man wished that he could have made a crib for the baby, but this manger would have to do. The tree could feel the importance of this event and knew that it had held the greatest treasure of all time.
Years later, a group of men got in the fishing boat made from the second tree. One of them was tired and went to sleep. While they were out on the water, a great storm arose and the tree didn't think it was strong enough to keep the men safe. The men woke the sleeping man, and He stood and Said "Peace" and the Storm stopped. At this time, the tree knew that it had carried the King of Kings in its boat.
Finally, someone came and got the third tree. It was carried through the streets as the people mocked the man who was carrying it. When they came to a stop, the man was nailed to the tree and raised in the air to die at the top of a hill. When Sunday came, the tree came to realize that it was strong enough to stand at the top of the hill and be as close to God as was possible, because Jesus had been crucified on it.
***** The moral of this story is that when things don't seem to be going your way, always know that God has a plan for you. If you place your trust in Him, God will give you great gifts.
Each of the trees got what they wanted, just not in the way they had imagined.
We don't always know what God's plans are for us. We just know that His ways are not our ways, but His ways are always best.
