THANKS FRIENDS!

"Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends! Life is too short and friends are too few."
~unknown

Just wanted to thank all of my sweet blog friends who understand why I've not been able to visit...yet continue to visit ME and leave sweet and encouraging comments.

My days have been extra FULL with so much family visiting, preparing for the breast cancer walk, the full day of activities on the day of the walk and now I'm working on thank you notes and the photos. And...we're going away for the weekend so I'm getting ready for that. Whew!!!! Since George doesn't mind doing the driving, I might just sleep the whole way to Clemson!

Sooooo...although things have been crazy/busy, I think of you all often and truly appreciate your friendship!

I'll be by for a visit just as soon as the dust settles.

A hug and a kiss!
Kat

I'M NOT SURE WHEN, BUT....

....eventually I'll get out from under the piles of "stuff" that has stacked up over the last two weeks and I'll be able to blog and facebook and visit like I want to again.

Hugs and kisses,
Kat

BREAST CANCER WALK 2009

I survived!

And boy was it fun! The 2009 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk was yesterday. I was surrounded by so many family member and friends. It's hard to describe how touched I was. A BIG thank you to all who supported me with donations and prayers and those who walked with me.

TEAM DAVENPORT 2009
The SURVIVORS! Click on the photo to enlarge and also to see the many faces that have been touched by breast cancer. My sister Karen is standing to the right of me. It was special for us to do this together again this year.
George with some of TEAM DAVENPORT's walkers.
Me with friends and walkers.
George, Bree, MTee (Bree's future mother-in-law) and me before the walk.
Even Santa supports breast cancer awareness!
The walk begins!

After the walk, my friend, Robin at NothingLikeIt, held up our TEAM DAVENPORT sign as our team members come back.

Every year I enjoy talking to these long time breast cancer suvivors! One has been a survivor for 48 years!

The Firefighters were there to support us and to sell some very cute t-shirts. I got a pink one and George got the navy.
Love the slogan "Firefighters Helping to Extinguish Breast Cancer"
Most of the team went to breakfast at Another Broken Egg at Sunset Bay. A perfect way to end the walk!

Dinner together with family members the night before the walk.
I think this is a cute photo of Bree and MTee!

Everyone left after church and lunch today except Mom and Sherry.

It sure was a fun weekend! Lots of memory making moments.

Thank you Lord that I AM A SURVIVOR! (and that I survived the weekend. lol)

LOTS GOING ON AT MY HOUSE?

Once again, I've been AWOL from blogging. Too much in my life going on right now...but that's okay because my life is full of LIFE! Thank you God!

So....what have I been up to, you ask?

Well...my cousin Julie, her husband Steve and one of their daughters (Becky) are here visiting from Minnesota. And my Mom and Aunt are here. I love this photo...see Miss Daisy peeking around the corner? She was in the center of it all until I ran from behind the tripod to slip into the photo. I guess it spooked her so she took off, but then came back in time to be in the photo.

Of course we played games!
We had a wonderful dinner of cold shrimp with cocktail sauce and hot shrimp with hot garlic/lemon butter for dipping along with baked potatoes loaded with cheese, sour cream and crumbled crispy bacon, coleslaw and garlic bread.

And for dessert....

CHOCOLATE COBBLER! Have you ever had it or heard of if? Not me, until I saw it on one of the blogs I read. Thanks Tina at Cherry Hill Cottage! If you've never visited Tina, you're missing out. By now you know me...if chocolate is mentioned, my body quivers. I HAD to try this recipe. Oh.My.Word! Take my word for it girls and give this a try. Today. You won't be sorry. And the good thing is that I usually keep all the ingredients on hand, so at a moments whim, I can mix some up. It's good all by itself...or add some vanilla ice cream...or some cool whip (my favorite way). I guarantee you're gonna love it if you like warm chocolate.

CHOCOLATE COBBLER

Melt 2 sticks of butter in a 9x13 dish
Mix together in a bowl;
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 cup self rising flour
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 cup of milk plus a smidgen
Pour this over the melted butter; DO NOT STIR, just drizzle the above over the butter.
In another bowl mix;
1 cup sugar
5 tbsp cocoa now sprinkle this over the above mixture, again, DO NOT MIX into the ingredients already in the dish, just sprinkle.
Now add 2 cups of boiling water over the top of all of the above, DO NOT MIX, just pour over.
Bake at 350 uncovered for 35-45 minutes.

Last night, we all went to the annual Best Of The Emerald Coast which was held at Destin Commons, an outdoor pedestrian shopping center. Each year, readers of Emerald Coast Magazine vote for “The Best” businesses along the Emerald Coast from restaurants to retailers, doctors to photographers, as well as art galleries, bands, places to be seen and many more. The winners are recognized at this fund raising event which is organized by the Junior League of the Emerald Coast.

What a deal! When you enter with your ticket, you are given an arm band and a large very nice shopping bag. You go from vender to vender eating and drinking and getting all kinds of goodies. By the end of the night, our bags were almost too heavy to carry. Seriously!

It was a cool night (in the 50s...don't laugh 'cause that's COLD to us), but lots of fun!
I didn't take many photos, but I had to take one of our friend, Dom, who is one of the owners of Fat Clemenzas, who won best pizza.
At one point, Mom and I sat our bags down on a bench to rest our arms. They were FULL!

Team Davenport in 2008

This is gonna be a busy busy week for me too. The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk is this next Saturday, the 24th. My team...TEAM DAVENPORT...is in second place right now. Yeah!

Last year, my team raised $3,205.00. This year, due to the economy, my total is $2,695.00. George talked me into setting my goal at $5,000.00. He believes in setting your goal HIGH, which is okay since we are where we are today because he set his goals high and was successful in business. But...it still bugs me when I don't meet my goal. I just hope to surpass my total from last year.

I have lots of friends and family planning to walk with us and I'm so excited and thankful.

A hug and a kiss!

BLUE, BLUE, AND MORE BLUE

Barb at Follow My Bliss has sent me this challenge. I need to post seven blue things in my home, life, community, whatever; and give a little show and tell into my world. So let's see what my blue eyes can find:

Our son Eric and I have very blue eyes. I'm asked quite often if they are "real". The answer is a definite yes!

1. Our beautiful beach with blue umbrellas and gorgeous blue water.
2. Even the water in the harbor is a pretty blue and George's favorite beach towel is blue.

3. There's nothing like having yummy blue martinis with friends!

4. My bike is blue...and just look at that gorgeous blue ocean and blue sky.
5. And my car is blue too!
6. Looking through my photos, I noticed George and I both wear a lot of blue.
7. The holidays are fast approaching. The stores are even putting out Christmas decorations, etc. I love love love the blue trees mixed in with the green that we saw at Bellingrath Gardens last year.

Okay, I now challenge YOU. Let me know when your list is ready so I can see what's blue in YOUR life.

Hugs and kisses,
Kat
