I'M TRYING NOT TO....BUT

Giving up, I mean.

It's hard. It's actually overwhelming now that I've opened up a can of worms. I mean, once I started cleaning out closets, one thing leads to another which leads to another which leads to....well you know what I mean.

Right now I'm tackling the worst closet. The closet from hell. In truth, it's one that has never ever been straight since we moved into our house almost 4 years ago. 4 Years! Now that's sad. Of course, I planned to make it right once the rest of the house was settled. But did I? No! (hanging my head in shame) I still can't believe I've let it happen. It's very unlike the usual neat me.

It's BAD. The condition of the closet, not the closet. It's a GREAT closet with floor to ceiling shelves. Oh the possibilities! Instead the shelves have literally had "stuff" crammed in no particular order with no rhythm or reason either. It's a closet that we open the door and throw stuff in and then close the door real quick before things fall on us. And then we walk away and forget about the "hole" until we need something in there. And then the dread sets in knowing we're gonna have to face the demon.

Okay, let me be honest. When I've been saying "we" and "us", the truth is it's mainly ME.

So it's only right that "me, myself and I" have to face the music and make it right. That's what I've been doing off and on for two days now. Slow work. I'm taking lots of breaks. Not fun. I've taken everything out and NOTHING goes back in until I've gone through it. Ugh! It's amazing the "stuff" that I've found. Again and again I ask myself "why in the world did I think I needed to keep this?". sad......

I will not give up!
I will not give up!
I will not give up!
I will not give up!

Do you hear THAT Mr. Closet? I'm not afraid of you.

I WILL NOT GIVE UP!

You won't give up!! I just know it. I finally made a trip to take a "BUNCH" of STUFF to Goodwill today; what a relief!! Lots more to go. I was really getting into downsizing "things" and then the girls moved in. But, I'm happy about that, and try to enjoy every moment 'cause I know they won't be here long!! :)

You can do it - I know you can! (Listen to me - I should be yelling this at myself!!) Did you take a "before" picture? If so, I can't wait to see the "after"! =)

Kat..
I'm doing the same thing..
what a mess!
got great motivation..
my sister will be coming out..
the guest room is really hers!!
so I've got to reclaim..
and ready it BEFORE she gets here..
that's the least I can do..
after all, my room at her house is always ready and welcoming..
and the extra stuff normally piled in my room there..
she conveniently shifts it into the study until I leave..
I love my sister!!
and Kat..you'll succeed!
I know your motivation and determination!!
warm sandy hugs..

Kat, I've been right there with you all week! I have cleaned out every closet, cleaned all the blinds, window sills and baseboards. Today, Alvin and I went outside at 8:30 A.M. and just came in about an hour ago. We have weeded, mowed, cleaned lawn furniture, painted the backporch. You name it, we've done it. We have had some motivation though....we are putting our house on the market Monday and I can't WAIT!!!

Visiting from Follow Friday 40+!

Don't worry, you'll get the closet done! It's a big project, but try to do only a little each day, otherwise it will be overwhelming. Be ruthless. If you haven't used something for over a year, you probably don't need it. If it doesn't fit, get rid of it. Donate it to a really good charity for people who could really use it! You'll feel really good about yourself!

You won't give up and I'm right there in the trenches with you. The bad news is that I only have a couple weeks left before I have to go back to school. The clock is ticking for me. We'll both finish!

We've only been in our new house for one year and I have that same closet. Doesn't everybody? lol
I know you will get it done, and think of what a great feeling when you can stand back and see the results of your hard work.

One day at a time. One shelf at a time. Don't beat yourself up! You will get there!

Someday...I'll do that too. We've ALL got closets like that. And during some points in life, you just let the junk grow (unable to make a quick decision about what else to do with it!) My closet like that is in my home office, and houses a growing stash of unorganized pictures. Not a project for this season, but someday. Thanks for sharing another topic we can all relate to!! Go Kat!!

Sorting and giving away and throwing out seems to be becoming my life. Five years ago when we downsized from a big farmhouse (after 18 years there and many, many children having come and gone) the task was overwhelming, but energizing. In this last year I got rid of much more. Now as we're organizing this new house, I'm getting rid of still more! It feels wonderful.

Don't give up! It's so worth it.

I think we all have a closet like that. I haven't had my bedroom closet open in almost a year, but I know there's only Christmas decorations, craft paper and yarn in there ... maybe even a spider or two. The hall closet? Nope, don't want to think about that one. It's crammed full of things that I couldn't put anywhere else ... curtains I've been meaning to work on before I hang them ... other holiday decorations ... beautiful chess set my Sister gave me ... Bingo game ... Poker set with chips, and other whatnots. Oh! The horror! :) Keep going, you'll get it done sweet friend. Then come do mine. :) xxoo

You're such a good girl Kat and sometimes I think you are too hard on yourself!
