DO YOU PRIMP?

primp
Pronunciation: \ˈprimp\
Function: verb
transitive verb : to dress, adorn, or arrange in a careful or finicky manner
intransitive verb
: to dress or groom oneself carefully s for hours before a date>

Do you spend time primping?

I admit I do. The hair...makeup...nail polish....and clothes...and shoes...and purses...and jewelry. I'm a real girly girl.

Sometimes it wears me out though! But I like to look nice.

Keb Mo reminds us in this song that most men really don't think we need all that help.

We don't even have to shave our legs! (what?!)

Take a few minutes and listen as you follow along with the words. Love it!

Shave Yo' Legs by Keb' Mo'
You don’t need no fancy tricks
Painted eyes or glossy lips

I love you just the way you are
Hope you don’t mind my beat up car

You don’t need to change your dress
You don’t need to change your shoes

Don’t try to hide your natural looks
Forget about the cover let me read the book

Don’t get me wrong I like them heels
But the way I feel is the way I feel

You don’t need to change your dress
You don’t need to change your shoes

Go ahead be wild and free
you don’t have to shave yo’ legs for me.

Hunnybabe don’t starve yourself
You’re lookin good you’re lookin well

And I’m proud to have you by my side
Glad to have you in my life

You don’t have to clean my house
You don’t have to wash my clothes

Go ahead be wild and free
Cause you don’t have to shave yo’ legs for me

You’re an angel

You don’t have to read them magazines
You already know how to get to me

Just be yourself and I will too
That’s all we really have to do

You don’t have to be ashamed
You don’t have to hide your knees

Go ahead be wild and free
You don’t have to shave yo legs for me.

Now go ahead be wild and free
You don’t have to shave yo legs for me.

I like Keb Mo. He's an amazing blues guitarist, vocalist and song-writer (aka Kevin Moore). I first discovered him years ago when I was having lunch one day at The Red Bar in Grayton Beach. It's a funky restaurant and bar with a limited menu, but the food is good and they play live jazz at night. He wasn't there live (pooh), but his music was playing at lunch that day and I loved his sound from the get-go and asked the waitress to find out who it was. I've been a fan ever since.

I primp for me, not others. It just makes me feel better if I have "my face on", clean shaven legs and some cute clothes on. How 'bout you?

"Father, help me to be a blessing to someone today."

I used to be a "primper" Kat back in the day; not so much anymore. But, I can remember taking a lonnnng time getting ready to go out. Now as I look back, I know it was more from not having good self esteem. But, I do still like to look nice! And, you always ROCK!! :)

My mom wasn't a primper so I really don't know where I picked it up! She had "natural" good looks and self confidence; something I sadly lacked. I have more now than before, thank goodness!

Hi Kat,
Keb Mo was in Meridian not too long ago! Great show!

Hope all is well with you!

I like Keb Mo. This is a sweet song!
I am not a huge primper, but at the same time, I don't go out without my hair done and makeup on!

Kat....I really think we are twins seperated at birth...LOL!!! I too am a girly, girl!! I wish I were more carefree with my looks, but being blond DOES NOT allow the natural look! Blond hair, blond eyebrows, lashes and blue eyes equal PLAIN JANE and I'm not comfortable like that! I like to look put together, it makes me feel good about myself. I too do not do it for others, I do it for me! I think it also stems from being a southern girl, don't you think??? BTW....put the house on the market today and they have already shown it this afternoon...YIPPIE!!!! Pray girl pray!!!

What a great song!! I was not familiar with Keb Mo. I love to dress up too. And I have always been one to get up, put on my makeup and fix my hair. Even when I was a stay at home Mom, I always tried to look nice every day. I felt like I owed that to my husband and to my children. I love pretty clothes, jewelry, makeup, etc. I'm a girly girl too, especially having 2 daughters. They tell me how they want Mom to look. I guess that keeps me young! Love & blessings from NC!

I love the song...I probably do not go two days a year without make-up....I have been so sick at times that I thought I might need to go to the ER and I would get up and put make-up on just in case...clothes are no longer that important...now if I find something I like and is comfortable I will buy it in every color and cut out shopping...I sure like shopping less than I used to...But I would never go even in Walmart, without putting fresh lipstick on...fortunately I have all my eye makeup tattooed on so its always ready...One of my good friends told me years ago, that most of us put on our lipstick last....If we would put it on first we would feel happier immediately and it works. I can work long 15 hour days on trees and be tired to the bone...and put on lipstick in the car begin to feel better...For some reason lipstick is magic to me... I have worn fake nails for probably 30 years (don't even know if I have any under them) and have never had them off more than a day in all that time..Nothing gets in the way of getting my nails done and a pedicure...every 2 weeks whether I need it or not..My nail guy knows more about me than most of my friends and I have taught him more English than anyone else..Ha

Hey sweet friend..
Do I Primp?
yep..
not as much when I was young and carefree..I do like my hair to be combed and like you, I prefer having my face on..
I'm not frilly , but I am definitely feminine in my classic style..
due to being SHORT, busty, I have to be very careful in HOW I dress..
it is so easy to go from stylish to sleazy.. and I am a Lady all times..even in sneakers and jeans..
It does make me FEEL better to take an extra minute to look my most presentable.. even if just running a quick errand to the grocery store..you never know WHO you might meet..
hugs..

I like to primp! I too am a girly girl! Clothes, jewelry, makeup... I love it all! If I went out natural... that would be a bit scary. I will have "light" days if I run to Target or such. But still I have eyeliner on, a bit of blush and lipstick. Remember... I am a teacher and I always run into past, present and sometimes future students. So I need my Game Face On! Kat... I have an e-mail I will send you later today of celebrity women with out their make up on... oh my! Nancy from OHIO

I'd say most of "us" who read your blog are of a certain generation where it wasn't proper to go out of the house looking like a "hot mess". I always put on a touch of makeup (not the whole nine yards) before I go out anywhere..even the gym. You just never know who you'll run into!

I am not a primper, but I do take a lot of time on my hair.

One time when we were looking for a church after moving here, we went to a new big church. The facility was new and beautiful, but as I sat there in that huge auditorium, I looked around and thought, "I don't think anyone combed their hair before they came!" I whispered to Alan. He smiled and agreed.

Before we walked out, someone said to us, "Are you college people???"

We still think back on that and laugh. Now when I do a good job on my hair, Alan says, "You must be a college person!" LOL!

Thank yu for introduving me to Keb Mo - I will check out our local HMV to see if they have any of his CDs.

As for "primper" I use to with I was in the corporate world... but I agree one should be doing it for themselves, not others! HHL

I'm hosting my 1st give-away ... pop over for visit...:)

No primping in years---I own one lipstick, and all I require of my hair is that it's clean and up neatly out of my way.

So I go through the world with a clean-scrubbed, shiny face and no makeup. Simple times.

And we ALL love Keb Mo!

We discovered him maybe 10 years ago, when he opened for Lyle Lovett. Ditto on the Love.

Hi Kat, I was a primper since jr. high. Then about a year ago I had chemo for ovarian cancer and after losing my hair (which was not as traumatic as I thought it would be) I swore that I wouldn't be a "slave" to my hair again when it grew back. It's growing back nicely and, unfortunately, little by little I'm reverting back to the primping. Eye lashes growing back but not strong enough for mascara so I "must" use a light eyeliner. Bottom line... Once a primper always a primper in my book! Toni

The older I get, the less I feel the need. Don't get me wrong. I still do the make up and hair and nails and toes, it just takes a lot less time than it used to.

It takes me forever to get myself ready to face the world. And some days I feel tired of the effort. But I'm a much nicer person when I like how I look.

I wish I looked half as good as you do, with or without makeup. I've never been a makeup kinda girl; oily skin just melts makeup right off my face. Guess that's why I'm the 'Plain Jane Princess With The Wash And Go Hair.' :) You look fabulous all the time.

Yep...gotta have a little makeup on at all times and lipstick or gloss ALWAYS!! I have to do my hair everyday too. I've gotten a little more casual when I'm at home lately but my husband always asks me if I'm feeling all right. He's not used to it. Gotta shave the legs everyday in summer!!

I do it for me too! I feel better!!
Love ya, Connie

I love to primp, when I feel good! Many days, with this ol' RA, I don't primp, but in my heart I want to! Back in the day, it was makeup, jewelry, matching heels and purse, everyday. Being a perfectionist, I always took much longer than anyone else in our household to get ready for anything. My dad once told me that I'd be late for my own funeral but I'll sure look good!
