IT'S ALL GOOD

YIPPEE!

We've always felt like we live in PARADISE and now it's official....the readers of Southern Living magazine agree.

Our water is just gorgeous!

And our sand is sugar white and it feels like powder between your toes. We don't have many shells (unless you go really really early in the morning) and we're glad. It makes it a joy to walk on the beach.

The Southern Living Magazine’s Readers’ Choice Award goes to Destin for being the number one Best Beach. Destin also placed 10th for the Best Weekend Getaway, ninth for Best City, and third for the Best Family Destination.This is the area’s 14th year racking up honors with the Readers’ Choice awards, with great reviews coming from people who actually visit and fall in love with the area.

Destin’s beaches meander for 24 miles along the coastline....60% of which are protected by law. A safe and beautiful beach environment is always a top priority for our City Council members. I read somewhere recently that we get an astonishing average of 343 sunny days per year! We think our emerald coast is gorgeous and I'm so happy that others agree.

As you can see from this map...we're surrounded by water. I love that. George and I enjoy riding our bikes or taking the golf cart and we can go just about anywhere we want to go, including the beach or bay.

When we bought our first condo years ago as a second "home", I never ever ever thought we'd live here. It's a dream come true to live in a place that feels and looks like paradise and offers so much to do.

A big plus for me has been that so many of my blog friends vacation here, so I've been able to meet them in "real life". That's been fun. I hope you'll visit here too.
~~~~~~
How cool is this?
I received this sketch of the Hudson River landing by a Sacramento Bee editorial cartoonist in an e-mail this morning. I love it. As soon as I saw it, the song "He's Got The Whole World In His Hands" came to my mind.
~~~~~~

Yeah, after so many days of really cold weather (for us), our temps were perfect for tennis this morning. Hmmmm....maybe I'll be able to wear my flip flops soon.

Hugs and kisses,
Kat

I'll be traveling on a cruise for the first time ever, a week from tomorrow. My Mom, my three sisters and I will visit the Bahama's to celebrated my one sisters 5 year anniversary past her breast cancer diagnosis. I really don't know if the Bahama's can be as pretty as Destin, but then I'm partial.

Thanks for the beautiful pictures and that sweet sketch...it will be my first flight ever too and boy I'm nervous but it helps to know that every plane I'll be on will be in His Hands!

Blessin's♥

It is ironic that you would post about where you live, because I was wondering where in Florida you lived after you were talking about going to Pensacola. I have never been to Destin, but it looks beautiful!! I hope to get to visit someday. By the way, I would love to use that cartoon in one of my blog posts. Would that be OK? It is awesome. I agree, He has the whole world in His hands!!! Love & blessings in NC!

Hi Kat,
I understand why SL readers picked Destin!

It is the most beautiful beach I've been to!

We were there over 2 years ago. Hope to get back down there soon!

You don't know me and I don't know exactly how I found your blog, but I read it most every day. I have to agree, Destin is wonderful. We were there in July and hopefully back again soon. We stayed at Majestic Sun, are you close to there? I so could live there!

Okay... this Michigander is on her way down! I love how you never take your paradise for granted! I knew it was amazing! I love the picture of the plane being held in God's hand. I just borrowed it. I hope you don't mind! Have a great weekend, enjoying your paradise!!!

I must concur with Southern Living. Bea-U-ti-ful.

PS...Maggie was supposed to be for the kids...she is Mike's baby. He's always in DC and when he comes home she can hardly contain herself. Good old Wheaten Greetin!! Does Miss Daisy do that?? I have to gate her in the kitchen till he gets his suit off.

I think those white beaches need about 6 inches of white snow...just to make things interesting.

I didn't realize that's where you were. When I saw it in Southern Living (and mentioned in several other places recently), I decided it deserved to be on my Bucket List! I have to admit that I'm a little jealous, as I would love to live at the beach full-time. I have to go there to find my sanity. So, please enjoy it for me! OH, I loved that airline flight...had not seen it! One of my friends works with some people who were suppose to be on that flight, but all but 1 had changed flights. (We live w/in 30 mins of Charlotte). Some of the people in towns betw/ here & there were on Ellen this week. They're very blessed.

The pictures of your beach are simply amazing - all those shades of blue and green. And I LOVE that sketch.

Our temps went into the low 50's this afternoon. It felt like Spring to us.

Oh my! Good thing you posted a map because I just learned Destin was in the panhandle, I thought it was over on the east coast between Melbourne and above Ft. Lauderdale...oh no, I'm so embarassed being a Florida neighbor & not even realizing!

It's nice to have Southern Living confirm that for the world to know (even though us Floridians already knew that about Destin). I love Southern Living magazine. They have the best articles.

It was great that you and Beth were able to get out and have some fun together. Girlfriends need that time together! I'm glad to hear that Beth is feeling better.

Have a wonderful weekend!!

You are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place. I will have to put Destin on my to-visit list. We usually come to Florida at least once a year and stay on the west coast but have never tried Destin.
