Yikes! A powerful reminder of the barrage and influence of the media--

I was surprised to see Dove, maker of the beauty bar, as a sponsor. Good message! My oldest daughter is pretty smart about the world's marketing schemes - my youngest... well, she's only three and wants to be a princess.

Kat, this had me in tears. My daughter is only 10 and already she is so self-conscious about how different her body is than the "norm." She is earlier in her development than a lot of her friends. And she is beautiful, healthy as all get out, and has a beautiful spirit! Just like 10 year old girls do naturally. And then the media gets a hold of them, and its painful to see how critical they are of themselves. And it doesn't apply just to them, but to all of us! We are God's creations and yet, somehow, Revlon and Hilfiger are supposed to know better? Thank you for posting this. I'm going to check out the website.

Just goes to show you that women are still sex slaves...no wonder so many of us are screwed up...no pun intended...men are still in charge, I keep wondering if the man I married is the only one like he is,the least sexist man I know, then I see images and hear about your husband, and well, that's 2...of course there's Randey, Sissy (Kari)'s husband...3...so what gives? Why aren't the good men in a position of control? I don't know if you listen to Kenny Chesney, but his new number, Dancin' for the Groceries made me cry the first time I heard it, and can bring me to tears just thinking how incredibly lucky my life has been in the choice I made. Sorry to run on...it's something I can't help, lol

You know I have never seen this commercial on TV. But I have seen it twice in blogland now. It really sends a powerful message. It should be airing all of the time. Great concept!!

Love,

Yes, this scares the heck out of me! I really do like Dove's focus on "real" beauty. I just hope it catches on!

It is so sad that girls start comparing themselves to the "world's" standards at such young ages. I know my 11 year old already makes comments about things "making her look fat" how sad is that. I just have to keep telling them they are beautiful creations of God!

I think one of the sadder things in our world today is the fact that little girls don't get to be little girls. Actually this whole thing pushes my buttons so much..I think I'll do a post on it. Thought provoking video.

And how about the clothes that are being pushed on little girls? I saw a little girl the other day, she couldn't have been more than 4. She had a skirt on, worn way below her navel and a skimpy little top that didn't come anywhere near the skirt. And big clunky platform shoes. Why can't kids be kids any more?

This was really a powerful message. My daughter watch it with me too.

A very eye-opening video...thanks for posting it!

Disturbing, to say the least. Unfortunately the media and many other influences have already reached our little girls in many cases. We have our work cut out for us to undo the damage.

I love Dove's campaign against all of this brain washing. I had a friend who I called Sunshine. She made headlines several years back when she went under the knife for multiple cosmetic procedures (all at once) and died on the table. She was a beautiful woman and didnt'even need what she was after. Very sad. Thanks for sharing this!

Also, you mentioned on another blog something about your signature. How did you get your signature into your posts? I have blogspot, too.

Whoa! That took me by surprise! I was admiring the precious, innocent little girl in the beginning and then boom! Just like in real life, it comes at them so fast. Parents really need to be the buffer for these precious innocent ones.

I loved the mammogram cartoon you inserted in one of your previous posts! So glad all looked A-ok!!

I came across your blog through The Bunnies Bungalow and wanted to stop by for a visit. You have a great blog and I have enjoyed reading it. Congratulations on the mammogram results - really good news and thank you for the reminder to do self breast exams. Great message from Dove too! Thanks for sharing!

Have a beautiful day!

Kat, hi I agree with this so much. I have a daughter and see the effects of the media and the teen stars of today leave little chance of being called role models...I hope we can instill in all female, whatever their ages to be happy and continent....Love you and your daily message of love....thank you soo much....

I'm a little bit behind in my blog reading so I'm playing catch up!

That was so well put together. What a fantastic message. The saddest part, in my view, is that WOMEN play such a huge part in sending these destructive messages. Women are the ones starring in these ads and commercials, etc. It's no wonder some of us find it difficult to maintain a good self-image! Everywhere we look, we're bombarded with images of an "ideal" female. And unfortunately, the "ideal" female image isn't one most of us can "live up" to. You know what burns me the most? Almost every single picture you see on magazine covers is AIR BRUSHED! The wrinkles are air brushed away, the waist-lines are nipped in, the hips are thinned, the legs are elongated. Geez! The "ideal" female image we're all striving for doesn't even exist in reality!!
