MOMENTS OF MY LIFE

I have a plaque hanging over the door leading from the house to our garage. It's not a fancy plaque, but I love the saying. I hung it in this particular spot so I can see it everytime I leave the house.

WE DO NOT REMEMBER DAYS

WE REMEMBER MOMENTS

Of course I remember things that happened on certain days, but not the whole day. But, oh how I remember moments. Some good, some not so good, and some very bad. Here's just a few in no particular order.

I remember vividly the moment my children were born and then later when my grandchildren were born.

I remember the moment I knew George was the one for me.

I remember the moment right after we became husband and wife and we were standing with both boys before our friends and family knowing that the four of us had just become our own little family.

I remember the moment I learned my first child was stillborn.

I remember the moment the car door closed when we were leaving the children at college.

I remember the moment when I stood at my Granny's funeral and realized I would never see her again.

I remember the moment right before my first kiss. I knew it was about to happen and I was so excited.

I remember the moment I watched the first plane hit the Trade Center.

I remember the moment the preacher took me by the arms and slowly placed me under the water for baptism.

I remember the moment I went from liking my stepson to loving him and I knew in that instant that he was my son now.

I remember the moment the principal made the announcement about JFK's assassination.

I remember so many moments every time I was pregnant and loving feeling my little one moving around.

I remember the moment I watched the space shuttle as it exploded.

I remember the moment I received a phone call about a dear friend's suicide.

I remember the very moment I heard the doctor tell me I had breast cancer.

My list could go on and on...so many moments I remember. I want to cherish each precious moment I have.

We are not promised one more moment.

Kat, what a beautiful, though provoking post. I remember some of those very same moments. It makes me want to do my own list. That quote is so true, though. It's the moments that matter. Thanks for giving me some sweet things to think about.

Blessings,
Tonja

Okay. I have long been a quote FIEND (as in 'fanatic' or 'addict'...not 'demon'!) and this is one of my very favorites. When I first started card-making, etc, I came across this quote on a rubber stamp and knew there was no way I was leaving the store without it. It's one of the most timeless, truest quotes I've ever heard.

Great post...and thanks for sharing YOUR moments.

Maybe we should all come up with our favorite quotes and post them on our blogs...wouldn't that be fun?

Oh, I love it. Thanks for letting me slow down enough in my day and remember my moments...
I remember when we were at Eric and Angela's wedding reception and you pulled Carlos aside and said "It looks like she's the one"
You were the first to confirm that with us. Thanks for that moment! H

Kat, I echo everyone else's comments. This is a wonderful post and I love that your heart is so tender and you are so in-tuned to each moment...that's what makes you so special!

We should all slow down enough to appreciate the moments.

What a lovely post, and a perfect thought to concentrate on each day!

I love your new "look" on your blog, and the photo with your DH, too!

Such wonderful things to remember.

I, too, remember the moment I found out that my first child was stillborn. Very sad and something I will never forget! I am so sorry that we both had to endure such a heartache that no mother should ever have to.

Thank you for sharing!

P.S. I love the plaque!

What a beautiful post, Kat. I love the saying as well. I'm tempted to jot down my own list and ask my husband to do the same...maybe to save for our kids.

And it's true, we do remember moments, don't we? I just loved this.

Oh, Kat, this is a beautiful post. You had me smiling through tears. Thanks for sharing your heart.

I am smiling and all teared up at the same time. What a touching post and what a great reminder to savor the moments more. I feel like sometimes I just hustle through life trying to get to the next thing we have going on. This reminds me of the post I wrote on my family blog about my son yesterday. I need to savor moments like that as they won't happen much longer!

I love that you put it right where you see it everyday! I do the same thing with my believe signs. I have them up and they remind me that I do believe. It keeps me going.
Memories are powerful. It's amazing how your mind stores up these clips of events.

Thanks so much for such a beautiful post. I remember so many moments too. It is raining here and sometimes during the rain I find myself really reflecting over my life which is what I have been doing this morning. I decided to check out some of my favorite blogs and your post was so appropriate for where I am this day in my life. I do believe I will be on the look out for a sign just like that one.
Blessings

Wow, very, very cool post. It makes me just want to stop everything else and write my own.

A favorite song we used to sing was the Gaither's "We Have This Moment Today."

Another thing I used to think about at special moments was what Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote at the end of her first Little House book. As she lay in her loft bed listening to her daddy play his fiddle she would think, "This is NOW. It can't ever be a long time ago, because it's now."

Of course, all those "nows" do become a long time ago, but we still have the memories of them.

Kat, I love that quote. It has a very special meaning for us. I did a scrapbook for my grandson, Conner. Conner died almost instantly upon his birth. I have a picture of his mom and dad holding him at the hospital. The first page of the scrapbook has that picture with that quote. It is a moment we will all remember.

Wow ~ what a list! It's true, isn't it, that our life is made up of so many moments, so many experiences. And they all help to make us who were are today. Thanks for sharing some of your moments!

I've had fun reading through some of your other posts today! =)

I am in awe of your writting talent! That was amazing. I think we should all do a list of our own "I remember's".

I also LOVE your wall color! What is it called? And the crown moulding is lovely as well.
