GULLYWASHERS

Gullywasher - A torrential rain that causes ditches to overflow creating flash floods on streets and roadways.

Lordy mercy have we had rain! Lots and lots and lots of rain. I like rain...the sound and the smell and how everything looks so clean and green!

But..........

Our 10 year old grandson is playing in a tournament in Panama City this week and the rain has slowed things down. We've had "frog strangling gullywashers" as my Granny used to call them. Hard hard rain that makes a big muddy mess. Forget flip flops. Rain boots are needed.

They started their first game yesterday and had to stop for hours to wait for the rain to stop. I truly didn't think it would dry enough even if the rain stopped. But, the rain did stop and they got to play again later in the afternoon. They finished the game and won 10-0. They played again last night and won again 7-5.
Waiting for his turn.
Love that smile!
Our son George (inside the fence) is the coach/manager.
Our grandson up to bat.

So glad there are no games for his team today since it's another rainy day.

My tennis was rained out again this morning....grrrrr!

Love to read a good book snuggled up with a "blankie" and a good cup of coffee while listening to the rain.

Speaking of books....what are you reading???

"Father, help me to be a blessing to someone today."

Hi Kat! I've heard of gullywashers, but not frog strangling gullywashers!
Sounds like a good day for reading. Your grandson looks like he's enjoying the game.

I'm wishing your grandson good luck with his games! I've seen lots of out-of-town ball players here lately. I'm reading Killer Heat by Linda Fairstein. I really enjoy her books. They are a series of murder mysteries involving a female DA in NYC.

I presume you are getting the rain because of the hurricane? The book I just finished reading was "Half the Sky" by Nicholas Kristof and his wife Sheryl WuDunn. Has to do with treatment of women around the world. Makes me thankful I live here in the good old USA.....Sharon

Aren't the boys so cute in their uniforms! What a score his team pulled off huh?
Now as for what I'm reading, I'll tell you but don't laugh! Its called: "Encyclopedia of Psychological Problems" by Dr. Clyde Narramore. I began it while my husband was going thru a deep depression after an ugly episode with his job and our entire way of life changed back in Sept. I had borrowed it from dad to read the sections on depression. I found all the chapters and other subject matters interesting and intriguing but have only read little bits at a time! I'm finishing it up this week. I'm also reading orally to my son, "The Mark of a Man" by Elisabeth Elliot.

And, talking to you must have been good luck...we actually got rain today down here...it's been raining for 8 hours, and still coming down...so thank you! :)

I hate that your grandson is having to deal with the rain for his games. That stinks.

Sure hope the rain lets up here, and also over your way. I'm wanting to go to a weekend family reunion in the Marianna area.

Just finished Nora Robert's "Black Hills". It was good!! :)

Your grandson is adorable! Sounds like his team is doing well. Hope the rain stops. We are dry as a bone here. We need some rain so bad. I just got the book The Help in the mail yesterday from my book club. I heard it was a good read! Taking it with me to the beach when we go. Have a great 4th weekend. Love & blessings from NC!

I am finally reading "The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls. At least rainy days provide the excuse for you to sit inside and read....I would love to do that for a day or two.

I just finished the Glass Castle too! I highly recommend it. Started House Rules by Jodi Picoult....

Glad it stopped raining long enough for your grandson to play. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

I'm afraid what I'm reading might bore everyone. The Baltimore Rowhouse by Mary Ellen Hayward and Charles Belfoure. History of how rowhouses were built back in the 1800's. What they sold for and how ground rents came to be.

Still see so many of these buildings in my walks and thought it might be nice to know something about them. You know me and buildings after all; especially if they're abandoned. :) xxoo

We need some of that rain up here. Our front lawn is yellow like straw.

Speaking of books, I am reading Strong Women Soft Hearts by Paula Rinehart. There is an online video discussion that I absolutely love!

Keep high and dry!
