I'm been making alot of "BLT" sandwiches this summer. We get really good bread at the bakery in Publix. Our favorite is the White Mountain bread and it's so good toasted. The tomatoes have been awesome recently.
Frying the bacon is the hardest part. I remembered recently how my mother-in-law used to cook hers, so that's what I've been doing. It's so much easier. I just put the bacon in my electric skillet and "scramble" it. Just keep stirring it around. No need to lay the pieces flat. Who cares what it looks like? It does curl up, but it just makes it easy to put on the sandwich.
A "BLT" sandwich, chips, pickles and a cold diet coke. Y-U-M-M-Y!!!
This works for me!

Yummm is right! I just love BLT's.
I bet this would work just fine in a regular skillet, too. I love BLTs!
I love BLT'S also. I never thought of scrambling the bacon. From now on, that it what I am going to do. I am trying to get away from the control issue. I like controlling my bacon, but no longer! If it works, I am going to do it. Controlling bacon is hard on my nerves. (Okay, I can hear you laughing now, but there is some truth to it.)
Mmmm.... Bacon. I like to bake mine. It turns out really good that way too. I make an accordion out of two layers of tinfoil and use that as a rack.
Oh, that looks so good! One thing we do is put our bacon in the oven on a cookie sheet with one of those wire racks and it is so good. Not greasy at all and it pretty much lays nice and flat!
kat, that works for me too! We've had 2 BLT's since getting back from the beach. And our tomatoes are about to start ripening outside in the garden, so that will just make them better...can't wait for the first one to arrive! I love me some BLT's. Our favorite bread is from Publix too...the Italian 7 grain (I think it is).

Oh,my! It is true...I am the LEAST domestic of all my bloggy friends. Bacon frying is indeed one of those most delicious smells that starts the taste buds jumping for joy...BUT...I don't fry bacon anymore, or microwave it either. I buy the Oscar Meyer READY TO EAT bacon. It's terrific. You can heat it for a couple of sec in the MW and it's good to go...or just eat it right out of the package. This works for me. It has a lengthy use time, so I always have bacon ready...and no grease popping!
Mmmm...BLT...(pardon me while I wipe the drool off my face).
I don't have an electric skillet, but I'm guessing this would work on the stovetop as well.
We usually bake our bacon. Pop it in the oven for 10-15 minutes at about 375°F. No need to turn it.
Did you know that the white mountain bread is made right here in Mountain Brook? Their granola is yummy too.
I love a good BLT. Maybe I'll have some tomatoes before long.
I'm thinkin' that BLT is lookin' and soundin' good right now! :-) I'll need to remember this one. Kate, my oldest niece, is ALL about bacon. Next time she spend the night, we're doing this!
I'm so glad you wrote about BLTs --I'm always looking for quick supper ideas, so I made them tonight with soup. One of those nights when we all had to head out the door to something. I'm so sick of fast food! Thanks for the idea:)
P.S. My mother-in-law taught me to "stir" the bacon too! So much easier!
That sounds delicious! We love BLTs, too. I wish that we had Publix here...that is definitely *the* place to shop in FL!
Kat, I left a comment before, but either it did not pass approval or these DUMB SCRAMBLED UP LETTERS ARE AFTER ME AGAIN. My comment was...I am proud of you domestic friends of mine, and I agree that bacon frying is a smell that is divine. BUT, I buy Oscar Meyer fully cooked bacon and heat it in the microwave for a second and it is GOOD. And it lasts for a long time and you can just take out 1 piece and you don't get grease spots on the wall behind your stove and you don't get hot grease popping out on your hand.
Now...I will understand if this is not approved because I sound like a crazy lady. Or you may never even see it if those devil letters are still after me!
