I'm definitely not a soap opera watcher, but I was when I was much, much younger. My Mom still watches them and it amazes me that I can still remember some of the character's names, etc. I bet I could pick right up where I left off 20 plus years ago.
Here's how they describe a soap opera when I looked it up the web:

A soap opera is an ongoing, episodic work of fiction, usually broadcast on television or radio. The main characteristics that define soap operas are "an emphasis on family life, personal relationships, sexual dramas, emotional and moral conflicts; some coverage of topical issues; set in familiar domestic interiors with only occasional excursions into new locations."
I looked it up since I've been thinking lately how much I enjoy this whole world of blogging. It reminds me a bit of soap operas. And I mean that in the nicest of ways. We tune in every day to see what's happening with a whole cast of characters. We get to vicariously become a part of other people's worlds. We get to learn about them and they us. It's fun. We get to pray for each other, laugh with each other, learn from each other. I like it alot.
Thanks to all my blogging friends for tuning in to "As My World Turns"...let's remember to just follow the "Guiding Light"...let's be "Bold and Beautiful"....let's talk about "All My Children"...afterall, we only have "One Life to Live"...we're "Young and Restless"....we're full of "Passions"...let's talk about the "Days of Our Lives"...and let's hope we don't have to go to "General Hospital".

Cute post...I'm not much on TV either, but have watched Days of Our Lives for YEARS! I had quit for about 10 years, then started back when Marlena was the Salem Stalker and was going to kill Alice Horton...horror of all horrors! :-) Besides that, news shows, Friends reruns and, on occasion, Dr Phil and Ellen, are all that hold my interest...TV certainly isn't what it used to be!
Fun paragraph at the end too!
Kat, I love this post! Too cute! And you're so right...I can't wait to tune in and see what my friends are up to!
Hi...I'm so glad that I finally found your blog! :) You always leave the sweetest notes, but I couldn't get to your blog through your profile.
Great analogy about soap operas. Just as fun and addicting. I'm a Y&R addict...ever since I was 14! Thank goodness for DVR...now I can get through an hour of it in 30 minutes.
I love your blog, and will visit often.
Andrea
You know, I used to DVR All MY Children and watch it at night, but it got to the point where no one ever had any thing good happen...it was ALWAYS bad. I mean, it would lead up to a good point for weeks and FINALLY someone was going to have life work out for them, and then BAM!, some thing would tear it all down. It just got too. too depressing. And I had watched since in college. I also kinda/sorta keep up with Y&R...you can watch once a week and stay totally current. But, maybe, one of the reasons I am losing interest in the soaps is that I am becoming more involved in the internet and my friends here. If so, that is a good thing. Cause, far as I know, you folks are real. :) And, in real life, good things happen along with the bad...like luaus at school, and spending field days with neices, and having an outstanding youth choir, and getting a frisky new puppy, and going to flea markets and getting in the newspaper...you know, stuff like that...REAL LIFE!
Sorry, Kat, I posted earlier here today, typed in the letters and pushed the comment button. I bet anything that I didn't type the letters right - rarely do I ever get it right the first time. I must get a magnifying glass. I forgot what I said..... oh well....
Ha! This was too cute. My mom used to watch "Days of Our Lives" and I got into it, too. She called it "watching my story." When I was really young I had to wait until after her story was over before she would take me swimming.
I had to laugh when I saw the picture of "Doug and Julie" back in their heyday! I use to watch with my Mom and Nanny. But no more. When Marlena was possessed, they lost me.
Fun post.
