THE CHRISTMAS OF NO COOKIES ?????

If you've been reading my blog for awhile you know my family has a tradition of making Spritz cookies, wearing Christmas aprons and silly hats.   We've done it for years.  Can't remember exactly how long, but we're guessing maybe 15 years.  Never missed a year.
Until this year.  "2011 - the year of no cookies"  :-(

Why?  My oven is sick.  Wouldn't you know it...the night before the cookie bake, it decided to act up.

But when life hands you lemons, you make lemonade, right?  So, we changed things up and made 4 kinds of candy this year.

You can't keep us girls from having fun!

First....a toast with mimosas :-)
My sister Kim, Mom, me and my Aunt Sherry

"What big ears you have little elf!" :-)

I missed making our traditional Spritz cookies, but it really doesn't matter what we make to put in our Christmas tins.

It's the memories we make that are precious.

Click here and  here and here and here and here to see photos from past cookies bakes.

Christmas hugs from the beach,
Kat

"Father, please let me be a blessing to someone today."

Hope you get to have some cookies yet this Christmas, although I suspect that it's the time together that makes the cookie-baking so special. I know that it is for my daughter and me.

And finally someone who loves the spritz cookies as much as I do! My daughter and I always make a batch when we bake Christmas cookies because I love them so ... and I know that I won't have to share them. ;-)

Hey, Kat! Looks like you are enjoying this season to the fullest. I know you love spending time with your family, it is a precious time. Saw the newest pic of that baby boy & he is just so cute, 2 mos. old already! I'm so glad you get to see him for Christmas too. I'm enjoying these next 2 weeks too, my niece is coming home next Sat. and we will have fun with her. Love & hugs!!

Oh, I just love it. I can't even imagine how much fun my sisters and I would have making candy or cookies together.

When I used to teach preschoolers in Sunday School...we would always do some sort of art project. Some would jump right in, some would dabble, some ignored it all together. When parents came to pick them up, they would often want to know why Joe had a picture and Sally had none, or only one half finished. I would tell them..."it is never about the end product...it is the doing. It is the exploring new avenues of expression or doing something that feels familiar. But, it is the DOING that makes the memories and touches the soul."

I think this is what you and your happy group did...enjoyed the doing and the being together. And, I'll just bet the memories are just as sweet!

The sweetness just flows from that kitchen, no matter what goes in the tins!

Stay well and warm, my Faraway Friend,

What a great save! I love the aprons and the hats! I once made my husband wear reindeer antlers for a picture :) I'll bet the candy was just wonderful!

I am just green with Christmas envy. My sisters live over in your neck of the woods and I'm way up here in Montana. I haven't seen them in about 10 years. But I'm starting fun Christmas traditions with my daughters that I hope can continue on. Littly Livie and I baked cut out cookies today and we'll decorate them tomorrow. No silly hats, though. Maybe I need to invest in some of those. :o)
