DOING ALOT OF NOTHING

George let me sleep in this morning since both of our tennis games were canceled due to the rain. It has rained ALL day long. Not usual for the sunshine state! And not just any old rain either. It's hard, cold, windy, yucky, dreary and any other adjective that can describe rain.

I've spent the day basically doing nothing. Unless of course you count blogging, reading a book, playing computer games, etc. I have managed to put fresh sheets on the bed (awww...can't wait to climb in tonight) and washed, dried and folded a couple of loads of laundry. In between all the other important stuff, of course. It's been kinda nice to have a day like today. And even though the day has been totally stress free, I decided it was the perfect day to pull out one of my coveted "stress plates" from the freezer.

What is a stress plate you ask? I know you're sitting on the edge of your seat by now. LOL Well, years ago when I first moved away from my hometown (which meant also away from my Mom), I would crave all the good food she would make for me. You know...cornbread and all the good southern cooked vegetables, which my Yankee husband doesn't like. So everytime she visited us, she would cook up a storm...all my favorites. And she would purposely cook too much so she could make me plates to put in the freezer. We bought a supply of those divided freezer safe containers and she would load them up. She told me anytime I felt stressed out, to take one out of the freezer and it would be the next best thing to having her there. I used to tease her and ask "how stressed out do I have to be, cause you know just having a bad hair day can be stressful"?

So at lunch today I cheated (shock!) and took one out. Oh, my goodness! It was filled with homemade mac and cheese, pork roast, sweet potatoes, and black-eyed peas. I sat down with my plate of wonderfulness and a glass of sweet ice tea and my book and I was one happy girl! Thanks Mom! It was delicious! (but I'd still rather have you here.)

Speaking of books....the one I started today has grabbed me from the get-go. I picked it up at the library last week. The Good Guy by Dean Koontz. I LOVED his book Velocity too. If I could write, I'd love to write like he does.

And for a little fun and silliness, look at this pillow I saw on-line today. I know if George saw it, he would order it since it would be perfect for me. LOL

Hugs!

I wish I had a stress plate from my Momma! I made my Grandmother's Swedish cookies for Christmas and really enjoyed them..but nothing compares to a full fledged Mom cooked dinner!

I make my own stress plates! Ha! Ha! Tonight we had one.

My stress plates are usually left overs from a 13X9X2 pan of whatever. Because there are just the two of us and I don't count because I don't eat supper, It is easier to freeze left overs in dinner form. It works for me!

I love climbing into freshly laundered sheets too.

Hmmm...I've never prepared any "stress plates" but think it's a swell idea. I'll have to start doing just that.

I like the idea of stress plates and clean sheets make me smile. It's nice to have a day of not having to be anywhere.

I am hungry for a stress plate! One of YOUR stress plates! What a great idea!

I have been having some of the lazy, so little, days lately, only mine are because of snow, not rain.

I too love a bed with fresh, clean sheets. It doesn't get any better than that, does it?

We have had a very cold wet day here too. Actually, got some snow here but now it is all nasty and just plain wet and very cold.

Your meal sounds wonderful. Enjoy those fresh sheets…something about those are just wonderful.

Stay warm.

Stress plates, what a great idea! To me there is nothing like good southern food! I love rainy days like you described, it's fun every now and then, a day to stay in and read AND IT SNOWED in Tennessee yesterday! I couldn't believe it! Of course it was gone in 15 minutes but it was beautiful while it lasted!
Blessings,
Patty

Your stress plate menu is making my mouth water just reading about it. I feel blessed every day that my mother lives only about 3 minutes from me and I can go there and peek in her fridge or cookie jar any time I need mom-food.

Nothing like clean, crisp bedsheets, is there?

When my friend, Susan, was visiting last month, I had her make us some dressing to go with the Christmas turkey (which of course wasn't even cooked until after she'd left because she visited BEFORE Christmas). She makes the absolute best dressing in the whole wide world. And she made enough so that I could freeze some, too. for after the holidays. She told me that it was a sign of how much she loved me since she wasn't allowed to eat that sort of stuff anymore due to her blood sugar levels. lol And oh man...was it GOOD! (Wonder if I could get her to visit again THIS month to restock me?)

Sounds like a perfect day. Enjoy! I love the idea of your mom's stress plates. I need to remember that for my kids.

And I always love stopping by your place, Kat. You always give me reason to smile and feel good about life, because it's obvious how much you enjoy everything. Just such a good feeling to come over here:)

I've just recently begun reading Dean Koontz and enjoy him tremendously. Isn't it weird how we're so energetic on minute and a couch potato the next. Go figure!

Kat,

I might just have to hint to my mama about those plates! =)

So glad you had a fun day.
