My seven year old grandson, Landon, loves Legos. I mean really, really loves them. He's amazing with his creativity and imagination. For his birthdays or Christmases, we have given him complex Lego sets and he does then in no time flat. He started a Lego club in Atlanta among his friends...his idea.
Angela told me recently that Landon was sad about their move since he knew he would miss his friend, Wesley. This past weekend, he showed me a tiny "saberlight" made from 2 Lego pieces Wesley gave him to remember him by. He kept it in his pocket during the day we traveled from his house to mine and he layed it on the night stand each night at bedtime to look at. He didn't say alot about it except to say it was something special Wesley had given him, but his actions and his eyes told me the whole story. It was so touching...it made me cry when I left his room the first night. I worried that he would lose it and would be crushed. I didn't want this to happen on "my watch". Every morning, I would ask him where it was. He wouldn't tell me. He would just say that he put it somewhere safe. Every night, I would see it laying on the nightstand. So sweet.
When I met Angela yesterday to take the kids back to her, I told her about it. Immediately, I noticed two fat tears rolling down her cheeks. She said "I know, he really loves and misses Wesley".
Saying goodbye is never easy. Friends are important to us no matter our age.
