I'M A SOUTHERN GIRL FOR SURE

I love books.  All kinds of books.

During the summer, I love reading something fun and easy.

Have you read Anne George's southern sister mysteries?  I love the titles -
  1. Murder on A Girls' Night Out (1996)
  2. Murder on A Bad Hair Day (1996)
  3. Murder Runs in the Family (1997)
  4. Murder Makes Waves (1997)
  5. Murder Gets A Life (1998)
  6. Murder Shoots the Bull (1999)
  7. Murder Carries A Torch (2000)
  8. Murder Boogies with Elvis (2001)
Oh.my.word are they fun!  I first read them ten years or so ago and loved them.  I was so saddened when I learned that Anne George died and there would be no more adventures with Mouse and Sister.  They are silly books, but fun!  These books literally make me loud out loud.  I'm re-reading Murder Boogies With Elvis (it's the only one I could quickly find the other day when I was headed to the beach) and I can't wait to go back and re-read the others.

I laughed out loud yesterday when I read this:

"I brushed my teeth, combed my hair, and slapped on some lipstick, the minimum I figured I could get away with if I were hit by a truck on the way to Philip's house.  Every woman in the world knows you have to wear clean underwear in case you are hit by a truck, but lipstick may be a Southern thing.  You want to look pretty when the firemen unhinge your door with the jaws of life, and the paramedics rush you to the waiting helicopter for the trip to Carraway or University Hospital.  The condition of your underwear might be questionable by that time but, by damn, your lips would be Shimmering Coral, and there's something to be said for that."

This is so me!!!

I wear lipstick from the time I get dressed in the morning until I wash my face at night.

A girl has got to be ready for anything, right?

Hugs from the beach,
Kat

I haven't read any of her books, but they do sound fun. What I am doing now though is re-reading a lot of books that I read ten years ago like you! Oh heck, I might as well say it: I can read a book I read six months ago, and read it again 'cause I don't remember much these days.

Have a great weekend, stay cool!

I love Anne George's books! I discovered them over 10 years ago and me and my mom have read them over and over again. I remember when I found out she has passed away and felt I'd lost an old friend...plus I felt like Sister and Mouse were "real live friends".

I recommend them to everyone...so glad you enjoy them too!

If I were stranded on a desert island my lipstick would be the one item I would take if I could only take one. I have always worn very dark lipstick and this summer I am trying to go lighter. It's hard...I feel so washed out. What are your favorite colors and brands??

I've always worn my makeup no matter what I'm doing since I was old enough to get out of the house without my daddy making me wash my face!

I haven't heard of those books but I think I'll check them out!

I have always wished that I was the type to put on lipstick all of the time but I am not. My lips are oily, so lipstick never stays on long (even the long lasting ones) and just slides all over the place until I'm a hot mess. I secretly read the Murder She Wrote books. I just love the character Jessica Fletcher and there are so many books for me to read.

Playing a little catch up finally this morning and you made me laugh right out loud. It must be a southern thang because I have to have my lipstick. It's a more natural shade these days; but it's still there....morning to night. In fact, I'm probalby the only girl in the state of NH that will be sporting lipstick while kayaking today. I'm a Souther girl for sure! So nice to connect with you today, I hope life is going well for you. I've missed ya! hugs, Candace

These are some of my all-time favorite books and are on the shelves of my library. You reminded me that I need to pull them all out and reread them again.

Well, I'm a northern girl, but I wear lipstick pretty much like you do. Sometimes I wonder if that makes me seem "old"--Me?! Old?! I notice younger women hardly even wear makeup except when they dress up, but I love my lipstick, well, liner and gloss. Glad to know of others out there with the same "must-have." :) ~Zuni

Hi,Kat! Thanks for stopping by. Looks like you are enjoying your little slice of paradise up there on the balcony, beautiful views! I'm hoping to move in by end of Sept. or sometime in Oct. I'd love to get in there soon, but we've still got floors & a kitchen to do. I'll be so happy when it happens! I'm not sure when I'll get down there with all of this reno going on, but I hope to before too long. xoxo
