INVASION

It's THAT time of year!  We have been invaded by the tourists.

Crowds everywhere.  The beach.  Restaurants.  Shops.  Golf courses.  Tennis courts. Pools.  Publix and Walmart are unbelievably packed.  Even the library.  The traffic is bumper to bumper.

And it's gonna get worse.  Much worse.  July 4th is coming.  Actually the whole month of July will be a nightmare for us locals.  (I shouldn't complain 'cause I used to be one of the tourists coming here! LOL)

July is my least favorite month to live at the beach for the reasons mentioned above, plus it's HOT and humid. Thank goodness we live in a golf cart friendly neighborhood and we can get to plenty of restaurants, shops, nail salon, banks, etc.  on our golf cart or bikes and we don't HAVE to get out in the traffic on the main roads most of the time.  Even the hospital and medical building for our doctors are close by.  My neighbor fondly calls where we live "the tiny kingdom".  LOL

I plan to stay home more, cook more, clean out drawers and cabinets and do a lot of reading this month.  Let me know if you have a book suggestion for me.

What do YOU have planned for July?

Hugs from the beach,
Kat

I'm reading "The Island" by Elin Hildebrand. She's written numerous books all based in Nantucket. They're good summer "fluff" books. Love " Jesus Calling" that I downloaded at your suggestion!

I'm sure the beach gets crazy busy during July ... but I still wish we would have retired to the beach (we would have ... if it just weren't so stinking far from the grandkids!).

Yes, I guess the tourists do make life a bit hectic for locals--but I sure wish I was a tourist right about now! LOL We went to St. Simon's Island, GA last July 4th--and it was way too crowded!!! I won't do that again.

I have been enjoying Mary Kay Andrews' Summer Rental and will be reading Janet Evanovich's Sizzling Seventeen next. I love anything that makes me laugh!

I used to be one of those "tourists", too...and honestly wish I was again. Maybe someday. I just finished reading The Help, which I'm sure you've already read. Now I'm reading Water for Elephants. I reluctantly started reading it because I want to see the movie and I have to say I can hardly put it down. Next up: Rob Lowe's biography. Sorry about your bite again. ugh! Is there industrial strength bug spray? Stay cool!

I've been reading Elin Hilebrand lately...her books are almost always set in Nantucket(which I want to go and see some day). Don't you love reading on your ipad? My favorite part of the day is sitting outside in the early evening with a glass of wine and reading anymore...I look forward to it!! Happy 4th Kat!!

I haven't a free moment to read at all lately, so I cannot recommend a good read for summer. But, I can feel your pain about the tourist. I thought winter was bad, but right now, you can't even get to the beach until around dinner time. I think the heat and humidity actaully makes it a bit more annoying. We've had several days of rain, off and on all day, it has cooled things down nicely and everything is so beautiful and green. I'm with you about staying in and working around the house, July and August are when I get most of my indoor work, decorating, etc done.

Have a wonderful, safe and fun 4th of July weekend.

We are in the same fix here in the SC Lowcountry. At least the Spoleto Festival is over. It's impossible to get a reservation in a really great restaurant during those three weeks. I've given up on going down to King Street on a Saturday until probably mid-October.
