Well, I never thought it would happen, but we had a mess here in the south today. Icy roads, cold temps, power outages, bridges closed, businesses and schools closed.
Here...in Florida!
We live on an isle, a three-mile long peninsula nestled between the Gulf of Mexico and the Destin Harbor. There's only one road in and one way out to the main road. All the bridges were closed and most businesses. I never left the condo today and George only got out to walk Miss Daisy.
I'm sure lots of people have made jokes and shook their head over us southerners making a big deal over this crazy unusual weather, but we are not prepared for snow and ice. People have died. Children have been trapped at school. Businesses are suffering because they can't open, etc. Like my Mama always said "If you can't say something nice, keep quiet."
We still had a beauty of a sunset though :-)
Praying tomorrow will be warmer.
Hugs from the beach,

Any weather that is extremely different from normal is not a joking matter, especially when it causes suffering. I do hope you guys will soon be out of the freezer and that we will get some relief as well. Cold weather does not affect the beauty of your beach, that is for sure!
I hope your weather returns to a more normal range soon, and I hope we get rain, as drought is threatening California.
The whole country seems to be dealing with some crazy weather. I hope it is better soon. Your sunset is really pretty though!
Hello my friend ... it was such a wonderful surprise to see you had stopped by my little corner of blogland for a visit... WOW!!! that is incredible, hope it warms up for you in Florida.
Stay warm, hugs, C. (HHL)
I feel so badly for those who have been injured and for the families who have lost ones in this very unusual climate. And, I also believe it's true that we here in FL don't know much about how to get around on roads. We haven't been too affected here, thankfully other than the rain and cold. And, as you know it will be in the mid to high 70's starting on the weekend and through next week. No wonder people get sick with the back & forth.
xoxo
This weather is CRAZY! We are headed your direction next week (Pensacola} and I hope it is warmer. Some friends of ours just bought a condo hoping for a warm weather get a way:-)
Thanks for stopping by - looks like we are trading places, you to CA and me to FL. Aren't we so fortunate?!
Stay warm.
My Goodness! Y'all are having a bad time---I've been in snow country for twenty-something years now, and I STILL have that burrow-in-batten-the-hatches, get cozy inside feeling at the first few flakes. And I've NEVER attempted to drive in it. Scares me.
Your balcony looks like my back stoop every time I let the dog out---frosty and icy.
Do stay in if you can, and stay warm, and my heart is out to all of you struggling with this unaccustomed freeze. Our Son #4 in Atlanta says he's never seen anything like it, and the CHILDREN stuck on the school bus til midnight would have sent me into a faint if it were one of ours.
I hope you're sunny soon---that's a bright part of my Winter---knowing SOMEWHERE Y'all are enjoying the balm and the bask---our group in Orlando sent us pictures of them in their pool on Christmas.
Great big warm Grandma Hugs!

There is snow on the ground at our beach house - I just wish I could get there to see it. We are thawing a lot today in Raleigh, but it was 5 degrees this morning!
Would love some warm weather and a salted margarita!
Weather can be crazy. Glad you are okay. I hope it gets back to normal soon.
I'm glad you stayed warm and safe through it all Kat. Ice is nothing to mess with. I live with this and I'm just not good in the bad weather like ice or snow...it just stresses me out too much. I got caught in a mess once coming home from work..it was ice..cars were going off the highway and they weren't even driving. I remember getting home that night and I was shaking from being so scared. Anymore when I drive out of my garage I say a prayer for safety and when I get to where I'm going I say a prayer of thanks. And I'm always praying for the kids!! Take care!!
The weather has been so odd this year. I have yet to turn my heater on here in AZ. I know it's not usually super cold here but we have not had any weather, no rain, no freeze, no winter at all. I'm sure it felt weird for you to have sleet on your beach balcony, never heard of that! Still beautiful though!!! Stay warm :)
