MEMORIAL DAY

Not much time to be on the computer, but we're having fun with my sister, aunt and Mom!

Tonight we had dinner at Flemings and then went to the Memorial Day celebrations at Baytowne Wharf.

Thank you God for the heroes who have given us our freedom.

A LONG WEEKEND OF MIXED EMOTIONS

On Thursday George and I drove to Atlanta and had dinner with our good friends Jack & Linda and Bob & Jennifer.   Gosh, it was nice getting to see everyone!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On Friday morning we attended a special memorial celebration in memory of George's great niece, Madison, who was killed last year.  It was held at The Inman Park United Methodist Church in downtown Atlanta and The Atlanta School where Madison attended when she was younger (and then later came back to teach Math one year).  As you can see, the church is very old (dedicated in 1898) and is incredibly beautiful.   It is located in Inman Park, Atlanta’s first “garden suburb.”  It is constructed of Stone Mountain granite and was designed in the Romanesque style.
A garden along the walkways at The Atlanta School was dedicated in Madison's memory.
George's nephew and his wife presented the first annual scholarship in Madison's memory to a very deserving student who is shown here with her proud parents.  A scholarship will be awarded every year to a girl, based not on need but on merit.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On Saturday I attended a baby shower for Jason (my nephew) and Alisha.  As you can tell by all the pink, they are expecting a baby girl!!!!!

 After the shower, we went back to my Mom's house for a girls night of fun, food and games!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My Mom, Aunt Sherry and sister Kim came home with me this afternoon and are spending this week... so you know what that means, right?
More fun, food and games.....
THIS AND THAT
Bear with me...this will be a quick and probably disjointed post since I'm hurrying tonight.
Lately I feel like this!
But... I opened my Jesus Calling devotional this morning and got the perfect message.  Just what I needed to read.
Do you have a Jesus Calling devotional book?  If you don't, do yourself a BIG favor and get one.  Unbelievable!
I keep mine right beside my computer.  It's amazing how my daily devotional message seems like it was written just for ME!  Almost every day I feel Jesus really is calling me with a message I need to read.
Today's message:
The world is too much with you, My child.  Your mind leaps from problem to problem to problem, tangling your thoughts in anxious knots.  When you think like that, you leave Me out of your world-view and your mind becomes darkened.  Though I yearn to help, I will not violate your freedom.  I stand silently in the background of your mind, waiting for you to remember that I am with you.
When you turn from your problems to My Presence, your load is immediately lighter.  Circumstances may not have changed, but we carry your burdens together.  Your complusion to "fix" everything gives way to deep, satisfying connection with Me.  Together we can handle whatever this day brings.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Do you have an iPad and/or an iPhone?  If so, did you know that you can change a setting to make it easier to read when you are in direct sunlight?  Nobody told me until yesterday. (thanks Robin!)

Anyway, here's how to do it.  Go to settings - general - accessibility - white on black.  Voila!  The background becomes black with white writing so you can read easily in the sunlight!  Once you're back inside, you can easily switch back.

Why didn't somebody tell me this before?!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm leaving in the morning for a long weekend trip.  I'll tell more next week.
My Mom, aunt and sister are coming back with me and will be here all next week!!!!! Fun times ahead, for sure.
THE UNKNOWN IS A BIT SCARY
...but a bit exciting too.
Well, we did it...we listed the house tonight.
We're not sure where we want to move.  We plan to stay here in "paradise", but we're not for sure WHERE.  We just know we want something smaller.
I wish I had a crystal ball......
ONE WAY TO COOL OFF
 I hope your Sunday was good.  Mine certainly was.  After church and lunch, I hit the pool.  Man, it was HOT!  Luckily I found some popsicles the grandchildren left.  Yummy!  I had to eat it quickly though before it melted.
I love popsicles!  Don't you?  They make me happy.
Note to self:  buy more!
Banana is my favorite.
What's yours?
Oh MY!
I enjoyed a wonderful afternoon at the beach today. It's something I should do more often, especially since I can practically walk there or take a quick bike ride or golf cart ride.
Life gets in the way sometimes. My "to do" list demands attention. Not today baby! Today I told that mean old "to do" list to take a hike!
And then I flew over to the beach...and did nothing except breathe in that salt air, felt the gentle breeze, people watched, listened to the waves, and read my book.
Aaaaaaah!
See why I call it PARADISE!
I wasn't the only one on the beach today. Quite a crowd!
Wish I had the guts to do this. It looks like so much fun. George wants to do it, but I'm not sure I could.
Maybe I could if I had a whole bunch of these. wink wink A mango daiquiri! Yum! (I only had one and I enjoyed every last drop.)
I'm thinking I might spent the rest of the weekend doing exactly what I did today.
A girl has to throw caution to the wind sometimes, right?
Enjoy your weekend!
MISSING MY GIRL
"A daughter is a little girl who grows up to be a friend."
~Author Unknown
This is an old photo (2005), but a favorite. It was taken when Bree was in college, before I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and she was still my "little" girl. Now she is married to Jay, working and expecting a baby.
Times change, but she is still my girl and best friend!
I love and miss you Bree!
IT'S GONNA BE HARD
Now that we've made the decision to sell the house and get something smaller and easier to maintain, I find myself appreciating it more than ever. Especially this time of year and especially right before sunset...when everything looks so pretty. The grass is green and the flowers are showing off.
Don't get the wrong idea. I know our decision is the right one for us and it's the right time...
but it's still gonna be hard.
I have loved our home. I will miss it.
(photos are clickable)
But...just like my flowers, I WILL bloom wherever I am planted! It's actually a little exciting.
I'm not sure where we will go and I'm not really worried. I'm clinging to my new mantra -
"Let go. Let God.
A YEAR AGO TODAY....
...our prayers were answered.
As parents, we wanted the best for our baby girl. We prayed that she would meet, fall in love and marry her "prince"....
and she did!
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY BREE AND JAY!
We love you both so very much.
Here's just a few photos from the wedding.....
(our three youngest granddaughters were flower girls)
It was a magically happy day!
