100 THINGS ABOUT ME

***this post was imported over from my other blog Beachkat/Starting Over****

WELCOME TO MY NEW BLOG!
Most of you who have followed me here probably have read this list on my old blog, but I thought it was a good way to start off the new blog for any new readers. So kick off your shoes, get something to drink and let me introduce myself. Thanks so much for coming!

100 Things About Kat

1. I was born in Virginia.
2. I was named Kathy Dianne. Not Katherine or Kathleen. My Daddy wanted it to just be Kathy. He was afraid someone would want to call me Kitty and he wanted to make sure that didn't happen. Not sure why. I like the name Kitty.
3. I personally like Kat or K.D.
4. I'm the oldest of three girls.
5. My parents divorced when I was thirteen.
6. My Mom remarried and I now have a step sister and a step brother, although I never say that usually. I consider them my sister and my brother. I like to say "we might not be related by blood, but we're related by heart". Enough said.
7. I married my first husband a few weeks after graduating from high school.
8. Our first son was stillborn in my seventh month of pregnancy. We named him Chad. He was buried while I was still in the hospital.
9. Our second son was three when we divorced after seven years. My first husband was and still is a good man. We're good friends even now and I teasingly call his second wife my "wife-in-law".
10. I married George the following year. He's my soulmate and my bestest friend.
11. We married on St. Patty's Day... 31 years ago.
12. George has two children from his first marriage. His son came to live with us two months after we got married, but his daughter stayed with her Mom.
13. We had our youngest daughter 3 years later and our family was complete.
14. Our three oldest children are married and I can truthfully say I love both of our daughter-in-loves and our son-in-law as if they were my own. I know this is rare, but it's true.
15. We have nine grandchildren so far...a tenth will be a little girl that one son is adopting from China. Our youngest daughter isn't married yet (but will be next May), so I'm sure we'll have even more one day.
16. I've always been afraid of heights, but the older I get, it seems to get easier.
17. I wear lipstick all day long. From the time I get dressed in the morning until I shower at night. I feel naked without it. Silly, I know.
18. I'm super sensitive to bug bites of all kinds.
19. I watch very little TV and when I do it's usually the news or a program like 60 Minutes, Dateline, etc.
20. I love to read and also listen to books on tape in the car. I usually have three books I'm enjoying at the same time. One hardcover for in the house, one paperback for the beach or the pool, and a book on tape in the car. It sounds nuts, but it's easy for me.
21. I'm pretty sure I had a paranormal experience when I was a little girl. I know…now I've scared you.
22. I wash my hands a gazillion times a day. I really should own shares in Bounty paper towels.
23. I love playing games...all kinds...computer and board games.
24. I don't like flower "arrangements"...just give me fresh cut flowers casually placed in a vase.
25. My favorite flower is the alstroemeria.
26. I play tennis at least twice a week, but I've been known to play as much as 5 out of 7 days.
27. I hate saying goodbye.
28. I love good hugs. I'm lucky that I have people in my life that give me good ones.
29. I'm not a good dancer.
30. Or a singer.
31. I'm a breast cancer survivor.
32. I'm still very in love with my husband. We celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary in March.
33. I love to go on trips, but I HATE to pack.
34. My husband l-o-v-e-s sports. I don't get it.
35. My last four cars have all been convertibles. Love 'em!
36. I have great friends. Some new and some old. Some are silver, some are gold.
37. I love my church
38. I'm a neat freak. My house is always in order. Just don't look in my closet. It's one area that I'm messy.
39. I don't like orange juice. I know, it's weird, but I don't. I'll take cranberry juice please.
40. I love, love, love chocolate.
41. I have a flip flop fettish. Love 'em. I wear them almost 9 months out of the year.
42. My favorite food right now is Thai.
43. I have very blue eyes and sometimes people ask if they're "real"...they are. My son's are even bluer.
44. We have a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier named Miss Daisy. She's a Daddy's girl.
45. I love popcorn.
46. My addictions: Chocolate, Diet Coke, Blogging. All are dangerous :-)
47. I make an effort to drink water every day, but I don't like it, so I don't drink much.
48. I love Mexican food...chicken fajitas, chips, salsa, guacamole and a frozen margarita!
49. I don't like roses... unless they're the knockout roses, still on the bush.
50. I wear untinted contact lens. (see #43)
51. I'm fanatic about laundry. I do it every day. Our underwear is still warm from wear when it's scooped up and tossed into the washer :-)
52. I love to take bubble baths while reading a good book and sipping on a glass of wine.
53. I could eat salads everyday, and usually do. My favorite is one made with mixed greens, mandrin oranges, craisins, sunflower seeds, carrots, feta cheese, Ken's Greek dressing. Yummy.
54. I love making a big deal out of other people's birthdays, but don't care about my own. Age is just a number.
55. I walk every day either outside or on my treadmill. If I'm on my treadmill, I'm usually in my gown, tennis shoes and socks. Not a pretty sight.
56. I'm right handed.
57. I'm a girly girl. I like makeup, perfume, and jewelry.
58. I hardly ever wear blue jeans and when I do, I don't feel good in them.
59. I'm a night owl. In a perfect world, I'd stay up until 2AM and sleep until 10AM. It's not gonna happen though since George and Miss Daisy get up by 7AM. Every day. I'm also a light sleeper. Ear plugs have helped though.
60. I love all nuts and have some every day.
61. I take my camera with me everywhere. I'm not kidding. It stays in my purse. I love pictures and I think life is one big Kodak moment. My family and friends used to hate this, but now when they see the camera they just pose and get it over with. Plus, I think they like getting photos and not having to worry about taking a camera.
62. My favorite movie of all time is The Goodbye Girl, starring Marsha Mason and Richard Dreyfuss. I'm a sucker for romance.
63. I actually like to balance the checkbook. But...I'll spend hours if necessary until I balance it to the penny.
64. I love massages. I don't get the professional ones very often, but George gives really good ones too.
65. I hope one day to write a series of children's books. My children have asked me to write down stories I used to tell them at bedtime. Two of my children could do the illustrations.
66. I dream in color and I remember alot of what I dream. Dreams fascinate me.
67. I suffer from dry eyes, which isn't easy wearing contacts, but Restasis saves me. Thank you Lord.
68. I never had a broken bone until last year when I broke both bones in my lower right leg right above my ankle. Now, I have 7 screws on one side and 2 pins on the other. Hey, I can still play tennis and do my walking, so I'm not complaining.
69. I love food. There's not many things I won't eat, except caviar, rutabagas, beets, raw oysters and raw sushi. Also, my meat has to be well done.
70. I love wine. No beer for me...can't even stand the smell of it.
71. My favorite time of the day is around 8PM. I love to take a shower and get on my gown. No PJ's for me. I love a long, comfy gown.
72. I love riding bikes.
73. I make my bed as soon as my feet hit the floor.
74. I hope to go to the Greek Isles one day.
75. I have a goldfish named Nemo who lives in his bowl beside the master tub.
76. I'd love to learn to play the piano.
77. My favorite snack - M&Ms and a caffeine free diet coke.
78. My favorite healthy snack - celery and roasted red pepper hummus.
79. I've never smoked and never will and don't like being around someone who does when they're smoking.
80. I love my Mom and I know she loves me. She always makes me feel special and she always tells me she's proud of me.
81. I like guys with long hair...as long as it's clean and not in their face. I'm probably the only grandmother who has begged her teenage grandson to grow his hair long. He didn't...not even for me :-( until he started a band. Now his hair is A LOT longer than mine.
82. I rode on a motorcycle once and loved it, but I'll never do it again.
83. I hardly ever write checks anymore. My debit card is my friend.
84. I like to hang one foot out from under the covers at night.
85. Of all the places we've ever been, I'd go back to Italy in a heartbeat.
86. My favorite ice cream is chocolate mint.
87. I love to look out the window above our church altar. I feel I can almost see God and I KNOW he sees me.
88. In the mornings, give me a Starbucks sugar free vanilla, decaf, low fat, extra hot latte' and I'm a happy girl.
89. I live in Paradise and never take it for granted.
90. My Mom still cooks my favorite meal for my birthday - pork chops, rice with her tomato gravy, pear salad topped with mayo and cheese. My mouth waters just thinking about it.
91. My favorite cologne is Calyx by Prescriptives. Love it.
92. I want to learn how to play golf. I've had 5 lessons, but I need tons more.
93. I hate hurricanes.
94. I always start my prayers off the same way...and then I veer off depending on what's going on in my life.
95. I always have a stack of "stuff" on my desk that needs my attention, but I procrastinate so I can be on the computer. Doing important things...like making this list. :-)
96. Carbs are my weakness and my enemy.
97. I try my best to "do unto others as I would have them do unto me". It doesn't always work.
98. I actually enjoy ironing.
99. Just thinking about my grandchildren makes me happy, but seeing them is soooo much better.
100. Most importantly, I am a Christian. And proud and thankful to be able to say it out loud.

THANK YOU

I did not plan on doing another post, but I want to thank you all for your very sweet and encouraging comments and e-mails. I am overwhelmed with all of the love and concern I have received. You can not imagine how much this has touched my heart. I will be back in touch with each one of you when I can. There are a number of you I don't know how to reach, but I want you to know how much your friendship has meant to me.

I don't know what I will do about blogging again. I just need some time.

Hugs,
Kat

A HARD DECISION

The joy of blogging and facebook has been taken from me.

Words can be twisted and taken/used in unintended ways.

I have made the decision to end my blog.

YIPPEE!

Guess what I saw today?

The sun!!!!!!!!

We've had soooooooo much rain lately here in the "sunshine" state that I was beginning to worry. But it's wonderful because everything looks so GREEN! My grass and flowers are happy. And now my birds are too since I was able to fill the birdfeeders...finally.

Hugs and kisses,

GOD BLESS OUR SOLDIERS

It is the soldier,
not the President,
who gives us democracy.
It is the soldier,
not the Congress,
who takes care of us.
It is the soldier,
not the Reporter,
who has given us Freedom of Press.
It is the soldier,
not the Poet,
who has given us Freedom of Speech.
It is the soldier,
not the campus Organizer,
who has given us the
Freedom to Demonstrate.
It is the soldier,
who salutes the flag;
who serves beneath the flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag,
that allows the protester to burn the flag.
~Father Dennis O'Brien, US Marine Corp. Chaplain

Thank you Lord for our freedom. May we never ever ever take it for granted.

SATURDAY THIS AND THAT

I haven't mentioned it lately, but I'm still doing The 30 Day Shred and I'm happy to say that I've only missed two days since I started. I managed to do it every day, except Sunday, when the kids were here. I was quite proud of myself for getting up early and doing it every day with guests in the house. I missed yesterday though. I was just too exhausted after tennis and I even ended up taking an afternoon nap. So nice! BUT...I jumped out of bed this morning and did it early. Today was Day 17. It has actually gotten easier...finally! It's not an easy program. The first week I thought I was going to die. Now I just need to watch what I'm eating.
~~~~~~
I don't know about where you are, but it's raining cats and dogs here in the "sunshine" state! I mean RAIN! And lots of it. I feel so bad for all the vacationers here for the Memorial Day holiday.
~~~~~~
Thanks for all your sweet comments on my last two posts about the engagement photos I took with my camera of Bree and Jay. This is an exciting time for all of us as we plan their wedding. As a Mom, it's wonderful to see my baby girl so happy and in love.

Hugs and kisses,

A FEW MORE PHOTOS FROM MY CAMERA

Jay's parents left on Monday, our daughter-in-love Jan left on Wednesday, and Bree and Jay left this morning. It's been a whirlwind of activities! I need a nap! Before I do though...here's a few more photos I took with my camera while Jan was shooting their engagement photos. I tried my best to stay out of Jan's way so my photos were taken from the sideline. I can't wait to see hers. We both took hundreds of photos for two l-o-n-g days all over the place. Jay was a good sport...most of the time. wink wink!

Can't wait to see what YOU have been up to......

OUR "BABY" IS GETTING MARRIED!

~~~~~~
It's been a whirlwind of activity around our house...to say the least...since last Thursday when Bree and Jay and his parents, MTee and Bill arrived.
Our goals for this trip:
1. Decide on a location for the wedding and the reception - check!
2. Have lunch with our minister to discuss the wedding - check!
3. Have the engagement photos taken - check!
4. Decide on a wedding photographer - check!
Mission accomplished on everything on our list! Yippee! And I won't even think about all the other things that we still have to do. Nope, right now I'm just going to enjoy this last day with the kids before they have to leave tomorrow.
~~~~~~

My sweet daughter-in-love, Jan, who is a photographer in Atlanta, volunteered to take their engagement photos as her gift to them. What a blessing! She drove in from Atlanta and spent two full days taking literally hundreds of photos. While she was taking professional photos, I took some with my little camera from the sidelines, including the one above. I'll share more of my photos tomorrow after the kids leave. Jan also went with us to meet with photographers and was a BIG help in deciding who to use. THANK YOU SO MUCH JAN!

SING!

"Life is a shipwreck but we must not forget to sing in the lifeboats."

~Voltaire

My lifer saver: My Savior!

Thank you Lord for the assurance that YOU are always with me!

I'm fine. My life is good at present. But...as I look around (in my neighborhood, in my family, in blogland) there are so many who are hurting now for one reason or another. The waters have been rough for me during my life. Many times. This I have learned: No matter what, God is with me. What a comfort to know we're never alone. If you're hurting, I hope you'll reach out and take His hand. And sing his praises.

Hugs and kisses,
Kat

JUST....

HANGING AROUND THE HOUSE TODAY

It sounds nice, right? Wrong! I'm forcing myself to stay home to get some things done, both inside the house and in the yard, before Bree and Jay and his parents arrive on Thursday night. I spend too much time away from the house and by the time I get home, I'm ready to relax (and spend time on the computer, of course) which means I keep putting things off "for another day". Not today though. Today I'm gonna be a good little girl and stay home. Plus, if I do, I can play tennis and grocery shop, etc. tomorrow.

I did Day 6 of The 30 Day Shred already this morning. Yeah me! I'm hoping to get in a good bike ride this afternoon. (updated - we got in 12 miles this afternoon!)

Let's all make it a great day!

Hugs and kisses,
Kat

THAT'S WHAT I'M THINKING....

~~~~~~
Speaking of weight, here's a funny for ya:
"A husband stepped on one of those penny scales that tell you your fortune and weight and dropped in a coin.“Listen to this,” he said to his wife, showing her a small, white card.“It says I’m energetic, bright, resourceful and a great lover.”
“Yeah,” his wife nodded, “and it has your weight wrong, too!”"
Hugs and kisses,
Kat
Day 5 of Shred - check!
I'M SMILING.....
It made me smile (and chuckle) when I looked around in church yesterday and it seemed lots of us girls decided to wear black and white! Every time I looked toward the door, another friend came in wearing black and white. It got to be funny. We were there early so we decided we needed a picture. No problem...I always have my camera handy.
~~~~~~
I think this will make YOU smile:

He's 90 and she's 84! Click here to read a newspaper article I found about this cute couple.
~~~~~~
I did Day 4 of the 30 Day Shred yesterday afternoon. It's getting a teensy bit easier. It's still kicking my butt though. George made me smile when we were riding our bikes last night when he suddenly asked if I had weighed myself lately. I told him no...our scales drive me c-r-a-z-y. If you step on them 3 times, you get 3 different weights. I'd rather just go by how my clothes fit and how I feel. Anyway, he said it looks like I've lost a bit. Yeah me! That's something to smile about!
Day 5, here I come.....
~~~~~

My Mother's Day was great. How about yours?

Do you have reasons to smile on this Monday morning?

I love you very very much!
~~~~~~
Happy Mother's Day to our daughter, Kim, and our daughter-in-loves, Angela and Jan. You are all great Moms to our grandchildren. I love you!
~~~~~~
Thank you Lord for making me a Mom!

Kat

STINKY UNTIL 2:00

How's that for a title to my post? LOL

And the sad thing is that it is true. I left early this morning so that I could stop on my way to tennis to water outside plants for a friend who is out of town. I played 3 sets of tennis and then came home to water my own flowers, both in the front and the back yard. Even though we have a sprinkler system, I'm "babying" lots of new ones that Mom and I planted last week. Plus I fertilized them all really good recently. It was HOT today...and humid. Once I finished and got inside the house, I decided I would go ahead and do my 20 minutes of SHRED exercises while I was yucky already. Believe me, I thought of skipping Shred, but it's just Day 2 out of 30. And you know what? It was hard, but I actually felt better afterwards. Weird. This program isn't for the "faint of heart". It's literally "kicking my booty". I'm feeling it. Big time.

Soooooooooooo....I was literally stinky until 2:00. I'm sure you're thrilled with that bit of information. LOL And, oh.my.word!, did my shower feel good!!!!

I'm "up to my ears" in wedding plans for Bree and Jay. Every day I do something. I'm trying to get things organized so that when they are here next weekend, we will have lots to consider.

Remember, I'd love any ideas about anything to do with weddings, receptions, rehearsal dinners, etc. If you see or hear something good, please let me know.

Gotta run....George is grilling steaks tonight and I need protein!

I'm a tired puppy tonight...no one will need to rock me to sleep.

Hugs and kisses,
Kat

I AM NOT A WHIMP

I am not a whimp
I am not a whimp
I am not a whimp
I am not a whimp
I am NOT a whimp!!!!!!!!

I'm not...really...but I might need to put this on my mirror to remind me.

'cause I sure feel like a whimp tonight. I (finally) started the 30 Day Shred. It's an exercise DVD by Jillian Michaels, the fitness guru and trainer on The Biggest Loser show. I ordered it weeks ago, but life got in the way...hey, that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it...but tonight was the night to get started.

It's 20 grueling non stop minutes, but I did it. Ta dah!

And I feel like a whimp. But not for long. I'm gonna whip this 56 year old body into shape. Oh yes ma'am I will! (said with authority!)

Like my Mom says "getting older ain't for sissies".

Hugs and kisses,
Kat

YIKES!

I'm back from my blogging break, but I feel like I need another one! I'm "burning the candle at both ends" rushing around trying to get caught up. Not only did I take a break from blogging, but lots of other things too. Believe me, I'll be a busy girl for the next 10 days before Bree and Jay and Jay's Mom arrive.
~~~~~~
Mom and Sherry left yesterday morning. We had 8 wonderful days filled with our usual fun. Mom and I worked in my yard several days, but most of the time we played games. Lots of games. Lots of fun and wine and laughter too, of course.
~~~~~~
Recently our minister requested 4 church members to give a short testimonial about their journey of faith. On Sunday morning George gave his. I was so proud of him! He talked about the bumps in the road that tested his faith. I'm so glad Mom and Sherry were able to be there too.
~~~~~~
I can't wait to visit all my blogging friends. I'm reading a few at a time between my chores. Oh, how easy it is to get lost in reading and forget the time though.
What a nice surprise I found this morning!
Teresa at Grammy Girlfriend gave me this Kreativ Blogger Award over a week ago and I just found it this morning. Thank you so much Teresa!
One of the rules to this award is that I must list seven things I love.
1. my husband
2. my children and grandchildren
3. tennis
4. riding bikes
5. blogging
6. chocolate...any chocolate, but dark chocolate is my absolute favorite
7. photographs, especially of my grandchildren
~~~~~~
It sure was nice to be nominated, but I didn't win the American Pride Landscape Competition. Sigh! Because I was nominated I have been invited to the Awards Luncheon and Recognition of the 2009 Gardens and Landscapes for South Walton County.
~~~~~~
That's all for now....
Hugs and kisses,
Kat
