WHAT MY CLOSET HAS TAUGHT ME...AND OTHER THINGS

I sure do!

My closet cleaning has taught me a few things:

~I buy way too many shoes...........and purses........and sunglasses........and jewelry.
Could this be because no matter how I feel about my weight at the time, these are easy to buy and they fit?

~Just how many pair of black slacks/capris does one person need.

~I really don't have to buy something I like in 2 or 3 colors.

~Closet shelves can gather A LOT of dust in less than 2 years.

~If I don't clean my closet often, I really have no idea what all I have in there since I end up wearing the same things over and over and over.

~It's kinda fun to discover some "oldies but goodies" tucked amongst some "oldies but why did I buy THAT butt ugly thing?"

~Having things in 3 closets (master and both guests room) means I have entirely too much STUFF!!

~I don't know (it seems) when to let go of things. This is something I need to work on.

~When I clean my side of the closet and get it all nice and smelling fresh, George's formally neat looking side looks messy, sooooo now I must clean his side. And since, I going through clothes in the guests rooms, now I must clean them too. Hmmmm....this is turning into a BIG job. And one thing leads to another that leads to another.

“The end benefit of cleaning out your closet is not a clean closet— it’s making space for new clothes.”

Okay enough of closet talk. I have some questions:

Question 1: Has anyone else noticed that when you click on your Dashboard at Blogger, the number of comments it shows you have received isn't correct? Mine might show 6 and I'll actually have 11 comments waiting to be published. Wonder what's up with that?

Question 2: I'm wanting to learn how to use a wok and make some quick and healthy meals. I mentioned it to my Mom when she was here last time and she offered to give me her wok since she didn't use it. I picked it up recently and now I'm ready to get started. Does anyone have any good "tried and true" wok recipes?

~~~~~~
I'm sure you're all feeling the same way I do. Hurricane Ike is making my heart hurt. I'm praying HARD for all of those that will be affected. I believe in miracles.
Please Lord, show us a BIG miracle.
Yea...Kat you and Tonja started something...I started cleaning ALL closets this week...starting with our sons closet. I decided to go through his closet first b/c it was cleaned a while back by he and his lovely...honestly, it hasn't been too bad...had a few things to give to charity...the rest is in a big rubber maid for him to go through and decide whether to keep any of it or discard. That's were I find myself in trouble...I am so darn sentimental...that I can't seem to throw things away...that touches my heart...and being sentimental...WELL everything touches my heart...so it's his decision now.
Bad thing is I still have my closet to go through...not to mention my craft room and closet upstairs and my craft closet down stairs (you know for the days I'm too lazy to go upstairs). Actually, I have my material and sewing machine/embroidary machine upstairs along with many more things...it's basically the wrapping paper and day to day stuff I have down stairs....needless to say...they are both disaster areas...So thank you...thank you and Tonja for cleaning your closets and making me feel bad...lol...just kidding...we need to do it before we list the house!
Thinking of you/your family/friends and your lovely coast during this ominous time...Stay safe...
blessings...
Perhaps your post will motivate me to clean my three closets, too! I laughed through your post because everything you learned while cleaning your closet was so true! I especially related to the fact that we don't need to buy something we like in all three colors!!! I do that so often! I really enjoyed this post!
I don't have any tried and true "recipes", but I make a lot of stir fry meals with frozen stir fry veggies and either cubed chicken breast or ground turkey, seasoned with lite soy sauce and served over rice. I learned from Lisa when I was down for a visit the last time that adding soy beans to the stir fry makes it taste even better - and they're so healthy besides.
I'll be checking back here for others' recipe ideas.
I've cleaned my closets and wondered why I bought things too. I'm thinking it's time for me to do it again!
Hi Kat, You must feel great getting things all cleaned out & organized.
About the wok.....I used to use a wok & you're supposed to use peanut oil because it doesn't burn as fast or something like that. Keep the heat high, toss in some fresh veges.... You'll find lots or recipes on line.
Take care, DebraK
You're right... I just cleaned my closet a few weeks ago and it's already needing another purge. Not that I buy that many things, just the season is about to change! I have to find all my non-sandals! :)
Have a great weekend.
I am plugging right along on mine. Going through it is one thing...packing and geting it ready to move is another. But, it will be done.
I have had a wok for about 4 years...love it, it is such a lovely shape. It is in the cabinet...stickers still on it, tags, too.
I actually have been very proud of myself lately. I decided after cleaning my closet out this last time that if I bought something I had to get rid of something. :)
I hope you get some good recipes for your wok. I own one but have only used it for fried rice. It didn't really turn out so well so I will not share that recipe.
Great job on cleaning out that closet! I challenge you to post a picture of the 'butt ugliest' thing in your closet. If you do, I will!
Congratulations on getting your closet all cleaned and tidy. That's what i should be working on but can't seem to get in the mood.
We have a wok and used to cook in it all the time at our other home where we had natural gas. I don't believe we've used it in years but it did make some serious stir fry...lots of veggies and sometimes we would add chicken or shrimp. I imagine you'll find some ideas online if you do a google search. Have fun...show us what you cook up!
I started my twice a year closet cleaning this weekend and I am embarassed by how many clothes I have...many I haven't even worn. And ...oh...the shoes! I have yet to swap out the fall clothes and put the summer stuff in storage. Still too hot here, but I am praying for cooler weather soon.
