~Mignon McLaglin, The Neurotic's Notebook

I remember so clearly the day we first looked at the house where we live now. Especially seeing the master closet for the first time. It felt so HUGE. All that beautiful space. It was love at first sight. It stands to reason that the more space you have, the more organized you will be. Right? I thought so too. Why then, are so many walk-in closets disorganized messes? It seems that the more space I have, the more junk I hold on to.

Do you do what I do? I hold on to things that are too big or too small for me. Just in case. In case of what?
I read an article in a magazine recently and here's some advice they gave -
~You don’t feel comfortable wearing it.
~You don’t remember you had it.~You have not worn it even once in the past 12 months.
~It doesn’t fit you anymore.
~The only reason you keep because it is expensive.
When I read that list, I knew I had to bite the bullet and get busy. I would guess 60% of my closet needs to go. I'm not kidding.
A friend gave me another piece of advise. She said every time you want to buy something new, stop and think about what you will get rid of in your closet first. Every time you bring something new home, something must go.
Soooo.....
Wish me luck!

here via Beaufort Lookout.....you CAN do it, if I can. I did mine just last month after a couple of years of "stuffing" and not wanting to open the door! It felt so fabulous! You will want to take a picture! Good luck, and have fun!
Good luck. This sounds like a daunting task. I can so identify with it. I have so many things in my closet that I think I might want to wear some day. Some things I haven't worn in years but just can't bring myself to get rid of. I don't even like to think about it. Why did I read this post? Now I feel guilty.
Goodluck..I was just looking in mine today and thinking the same. I want to shed some stuff.
You'll get it done, eventually! Have fun and enjoy the fruits of your labor afterwards. It will feel so rewarding to have it organized again!
Oh boy, thanks for this post. Yes, I'm feeling a bit convicted now myself.
Blessings,
Sher
Someone said that they have seasonal clothes, the fat season and the skinny season! Hahahaha!
At the beginning of each season I go through my clothes and gather a large bag of clothes for Salvation Army. Two weeks ago my neighbor's church was gathering clothes so I went through my clothes again. Now that fall is coming, I will do it again. I still have four tubs of clothes that I do not wear.
Good luck! I will be following close behind in clearing out more things. I think it is time.
I've had this same project on my list since last spring, when I put some of my winter things away. The other day I was thinking it's time to get the winter things out and I still haven't organized my closet. Which is a nice walk in closet. When our grown up nephew saw the closet for the first time he said it was bigger than his room!! It sure is jam packed now!
Oh comeon Kathy~
Pictures!!
~:-)
I purged my closets last fall, and now I can't even remember what I discarded! My Mom always threw something away when she bought something new. I need to start doing that as well. Good Luck!
Oh, great advice! I'm overdue for my nest closet purging, too...you're inspiring me!
Yes, this what I need to do. Especially since we're moving. I have probably already given away and removed over 100 pieces...and I am still going.
Thanks for a little inspiration!
We need before and after pictures!
I love to purge!
Have fun :)
AMEN!!!! If we would all just practice what we preach!!I was going thru my hubbies shoes today. Good grief Charlie Brown, he has more shoes than I do. The don't compare to his 68 golf shirts though. No kidding. If I hide one I hate, it's almost like he can use it's scent to locate it. I'm too chicken to throw them out, I don't want him to hate me. So I hide the hideous ones, heee, heee.
My closet is in dire need of some attention! Awesome advice.
Have a lovely weekend.
Blessings,
Sandy
I don't want to throw a monkey wrench in your good intentions, but let me just say this...1 month after I did a total purge of my closet and got rid of all those clothes I couldn't fit into anymore, I decided to join weight watchers. Boy what I wouldn't give to have some of those clothes back now. LOL
Ah heck, who am I kidding? I'm STILL glad I cleaned out that closet. I've had so much fun buying new clothes as the weight comes off - I probably wouldn't be nearly as motivated if I still had all my old stuff. Now if I could just find a better place to store all my wreaths...and my Halloween decorations and St. Paddy's Day decorations and Easter decorations....it's no wonder my closet still looks cluttered. It's full of everything BUT clothes. ha!
Good luck with your purge and sure wish I was there to sift through it all for you!! lol

Oh, I'm SO with ya on this one, Kat. I keep putting all sorts of stuff in my closet & it really needs a good cleaning out. Way too full...clothes AND shoes AND purses. I'm gonna have to bite the bullet too.
xo,
Rhoda
I clean and purge spring and fall and it's on my list to do in the next couple weeks. And...umm... yes I will confess to having a couple pairs of jeans I keep **thinking** I'll be able to wear again but can't get up past my knees! ha!
Good luck Kat! Great advise. I always forget what I have in my closet when I go shopping. It's always such a good feeling when you have cleaned out your closet.
Good Luck...Have a bright and beautiful storm free weekend and week....Hugs..m..
Oh how I can relate Kat; lol I am so the same way. I don't have a walk in closet, but I am glad I don't. I love the cartoons the one with the to big and too small,,,,,, well I hold on to them thinking someday I will fit in to them again. Duhhhh that will never happen. So good luck with your project. take a before and after photo that would be great. Women are looking to you now Kat so don't let us all down. lol;;;
Hugs

I need to take the time and organize and purge from my closet too. It's a walk in closet...problem is it's getting more and mroe difficult to "walk in". My husband thinks it's a bit scary in there and is glad he doesn't have to share a closet with me. He had no trouble keeping his nice and tidy. Thank heavens he hasn't had any reason to look in the guest room closet. I actually moved my my formal wear in there to give me more space.
I think I need to get rid of 2 things for every 1 thing I bring home!!!
Good luck!
