THANKFUL WE COULD SHARE

I'll be honest, I was feeling a bit sad about not having any of our children with us this year for Thanksgiving, but I told myself to "put on my big girl panties and be thankful for being able to be with so many people I love".

I have a great story to tell:

Every year when we go to my hometown for Thanksgiving, we stay in a pet friendly hotel so we can take Miss Daisy with us.  Since my hometown of Columbus, GA is near a military base (Fort Benning), we always see so many soldiers walking around in their uniforms.  Every year, I think "I just want to take them with us to Thanksgiving".  It breaks my heart to see our heroes away from their families during the holidays.

This morning George walked Miss Daisy right before we were leaving the hotel and stopped to talk to a young man who was playing basketball by himself.  He found out that he was from Michigan and had just completed his basic training.  George came back to the room to get me and told me about him.  That did it.  I just had to take him with us.  I called my sister and asked if it was okay if we brought a guest and she said "absolutely".  I wish you could have seen his smile when we asked him to go with us.  What a great guy!  So polite.  So charming.  My family just took him in and made him feel right at home.

Thank you God for making my Thanksgiving special.  Thank you go for our heroes.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU!

Hugs from the beach,
Kat

Aw, what a sweet thing to do! I know that he was blessed; but, I imagine that you were even more blessed. That's just how that works. Happy Thanksgiving, sweet friend! Love the photo!

That's a great story! He will never forget this invitation, that's for sure. And, it is an incredible way to honor our armed forces! He looks like a sweet guy.

Since moving to Idaho, we have had unusual holidays, too. We have no other family here except 2 sons. Only one spent Thanksgiving with us. We had a great but untraditional meal. Never got dressed up. It was a good time.

Smiles from Idaho,
Karen

What a wonderful thing to do! I'm sure it gave you a warm fuzzy feeling to know you made someone's day a little brighter. And I'm sure your serviceman felt great too.

Kat, I've been thinking about this since I read on FB what you and George AND your sister did for this soldier. It makes my heart happy.

We have a similar story but that can wait for another time.

I will tell you this; I was married December 22, l961 in the chapel at Fort Benning. :)

Have a great day!

It has been quite a while since I have commented on your blog or posted to mine. I have just run out of time daily. Time to get back to it as often as I can. It is so awesome that You took this serviceman to your family Thanksgiving dinner. I agree, thank you for our heroes every day. Sounds like you had a perfect Thanksgiving.

It has been since January that I have posted to my blog due to lack of time and have no idea how long it has been since I visited your blog. How things have changed in Blogger. I had to comment on your post as this is such an awesome thing that you did for this young man. I agree, and thank God for our heroes every day.
